Exactly. A good seal. In a modern engine. With a one piece seal.

The 4.0 was essentially drawn out on paper in the 50s and we're lucky it doesn't use a rope and graphite rear main.

The two piece seal needs the additives in high mileage oil to keep it from leaking. Or at least that's the established forum wisdom.

A good seal means not leaking. Mine isn’t leaking so no need to swell it.

I’ve read the documented hit-and-miss results of using high mileage and additives to make a good seal for folks who have leaks.
