Front Seat Assistance Please

I used the lever to flip the driver's seat forward...all was good.

Then I went to put the seat back down and it will not move. I can move the backrest forward and back into the locked position, but the seat bottom remains in the forward tilted position.

My lever is floppy until 80% of the way up. After that it feels like it is trying to pull the cable but the end of the cable does not move. I tried to rotate the rod under the seat by hand, won't have it. Put a pipe wrench on it and gave some pressure, nothing doing either.

Of course the seat is all the way back, won't move forward, so trying to see what is hung up can only be seen by a circus performer. Thank goodness it was in the driveway and not at a store. Left it where it is because there is no way to move it.

Tips? tricks? or a bigger pipe wrench?

Look underneath and work the release by hand and get ready to pull the seat and tear into it replace the cable-

If TJ owners will occasionally force lube those cables and levers and use rv slide lune on the tracks they will work better and last longer.

Tried that today, nothing moved.

Climbed in the back and gave it a solid yank...plopped where it belonged.

I did see a place that looks like a spring should go, but nothing was there. I'll get a pic soon.

@AndyG - do you have a favorite flavor of RV slide lube?

Tilted the seat forward again today...same result. Needs brute force to put it back. Sumtin' not right.

Let me check when I can sir- walmart has - may be we -40 brand - but specifically for Rv slides for sure

Mine may be 3 n 1 brand but any lube beats no lube.

Most factory lube eventually dries out.

either silicone or graphite will work. I think the graphite lasts longer though.

I lube my ignition switch, door latches, shifter mechanism…seat pivot points… if it moves It gets some kind of lube.

Most vehicles get attention during assembly- TJ’s are so old it dissipates. The back seat cable needs it too. It will surprise you the feel you get.

That is what I am stumped over. Everything moves freely and way above expectation of a dinosaur of this vintage to flip it forward. It just takes a linebacker to get to to start moving it back. Once it is freed from the full front tilted location, it moves with ease all the way to lock down.

It almost seems like there is a plastic washer/spacer missing. So when it tilts forward it tilts crooked and two pieces of metal contact each there and cause the binding. Pulling or pushing backwards from the side closest to the door seems to bind even more. The second time I yanked on it I was kneeling in the back, grabbed the inner side of the seat and it broke free. When I pushed from standing in the doorway and pushing that seat would not even remotely move.

Gonna be a while before I can get back on it but I will conquer this aggravating issue.
