Hello, I'm looking for ideas on a simple, modern replacement radio for my 2001 TJ. Preferably plug and play, USB aux maybe bluetooth. All suggestions are appreciated.
Thank you

I think if you buy a head unit from Crutchfield, they pretty much include the "plug and play" wiring harnesses that make installation a snap.
However, you can find everything separately on Amazon cheaper.
I think most modern head units come with the options you are looking for too.

check the closeouts at crutchfield i got a marine grade jvc receiver with cd/Bluetooth 4 jvc speakers and it was like 150 . now its not a high performance stereo setup just cheap and performs ok

Options are almost limitless. Crutchfield comes with free adapter harnesses and instructions to remove various interior parts as well as great customer service. They are more expensive than Amazon at times so buyer beware.

Another happy Crutchfield customer here. Dust ruined my stock CD player. Went with a Pioneer digital media receiver. USB, Bluetooth, microphone for hands free phone, aux, and AM/FM. The depth is only about 3" without a CD player. It also has a remote control which comes in very handy.
Came with everything I needed: Harness that plugs into stock stereo plug, 1.5 to 1.0 din dash adapter, and works with my factory subwoofer.
Took about 30 minutes to swap out. Very easy.

Looks real close. Mine must be an older one. Doesn't have multi colors. I've had it for a few years. Still working great.

Thank you all for the suggestions and I love the prices just exactly what I was looking for!

Yeah, Crutchfield is great since you can filter out the options you do not need, or look up the features you want, in your case streaming is needed and CDs are not required.

Plus crutchfield will send you, for free, instructions, a radio antenna adapter as well as the trim bezel.

Alpine and Kenwood make solid head units. Alpine has a cool App called TuneIt, where you can control the head unit's functions, like bass and treble, etc, from your phone. You can even share files, and change set-ups on the fly, like more bass when needed, or better sound quality for hip hop, or jazz, or alternative.

i bought this one and got the but and splice harnesss super easy and very straight forward. doesnt play CDs but thats ok and it has the Bluetooth, AUX and USB so pick your poison
Since Jeeps tend to be a little loud with road noise, especially with top/doors off, how well does the bluetooth phone connection work? Or have you tried that out?

Not very effective while driving with the top off, just way too windy, and that wind noise is picked up by the mic.

Works perfectly with top on, and Windows down, or up.

If you just want a version of your current radio with an aux jack, you should check out the stuff at 1factoryradio: http://www.1factoryradio.com/

They basically take factory radios and add aux jacks and/or bluetooth, which is nice for Jeeps since fancy radios on topless cars can be enticing for thieves. You also don't have to tangle with taking off faceplates and such.

I thought the biggest problem with our headunits is the fact that they are weak. I do have concerns about aftermarket head units specially because my Jeep as of last Saturday is seasonally doorless/topless and lives on the street under a cover. I am installing the pioneer head unit on Friday but do intend on locking up the faceplate along with my Ram mount. fingers crossed!
