SS SYE users: Is your SSSYE loud?

Pretty long story here, (more details in my build thread starting about page 8), but I'm having some issues with my Teraflex Extreme Short SYE. I ordered the package deal from Adam's a few months ago and finally got it installed recently. It had a bad whine and I tore into to find that the tone ring had a damaged edge that was digging into the oil pump. That was bad, but wasn't the noise. Tried some other things, determined that the bearing seemed to be bad (gritty sounding and not smooth), emailed Teraflex, and was ultimately sent another kit.

Got that kit installed today and have the same noise (video below). It builds up to about 45mph but then either gets better or is drowned out by other noise. I also have my side and back panels off right now, so there's a lot of wind noise above 45. Still need to do a little tweaking to the pinion angle but that's a different issue with a vibe around 60.



So my question to those of you with a super short SYE is are they inherently noisy? There aren't many parts so I can't figure out what it could possibly be? Unless it's the DC on the driveshaft, but being underneath with it spinning on stands, it definitely seems to be coming from within the transfer case. Could it be the tone ring spinning in there?

At this point, I'm thinking I just run it and see what happens.

I'll be honest all I hear is a slight whine sound. I'm not hearing anything else in the video. Might just need to break in the new bearing?

Unfortunately, the video doesn't do it just. It's pretty loud. Like I said, I'm probably just going to run it at this point. Be like Drago on Rocky IV, if he dies, he dies.

I thought some others might be able to chime in.

Trying to record noises isn't easy. The best way to record a noise like that is with some type of camera mounted under the rig. But that takes a lot more work and getting stuff secured too... When I worked at a dealership we had a complete kit for diagnosing issues like this.

Hopefully someone who has the kit will chime in on if they have noises also.

Not what I was hoping to hear! I was hoping it's not just me.

I have the same one, dead quiet for me, also picked mine up from tom woods. Only weird thing I had happen was the bolt for the sensor was 1/4-28 instead of the 1/4-20 it's supposed to be
