Some things are not worth remembering.
Those "Things" have always been an interesting little ride. I've never ridden in one, but they seem like they'd make an awesome little beach town kind of ride.
YesGTI wheels on that, no?
Yup , Rabbit ( Golf ) platform FWD . The one in the photo is a 84 . It doesn't seem possible to me that's it's a 41 year old car now !
I've only ever seen one Detroit diesel in public.
Some dude operates a dump truck with one around me. Stinky and loud
Seeing them was one thing, but hearing them used to be a daily occurrence as they were quite common in over-the-road trucks (referring to the two strokers). They were prolific and long-lived.![]()
Sad but true, at least not as factory built. I think the mechanicals can last the time, but the electronic gizmos will scrap the majority of current modern vehicles.

Wait, we're the normal strong healthy specimens. It's the short people who are the freaks.

I had a friend at work offer me his '86
Invented by a German . . . and they still haven't got it right.I passed on it. Was it just a VW to me? Did I not want to deal with "da Jerman enjineeering" and all its quirks and challenges?
I see old Beetles nearly every day.
Cannot recall the last time I saw a VW Thing anywhere, but used to see them frequently. Same goes for the Beetle, really.

After retirement wife, dogs and I enjoyed taking the Channel Tunnel and touring Europe in my Land Rover Defender (broke my heart when I sold it, replaced with a JLU), around 10,000 miles a year until Covid and Brexit made taking the dogs expensive and frought with red tape. Saw quite a few cars left behind by U.S. service personnel over the years.
This one in Denmark, no idea what it is, feel free to enlighten me.
