Car pics too cool not to share

@chili_pepper It looks like the turbo version is called DFX and has a smaller displacement, probably a tradeoff for thicker cylinder walls, and made in the 850 hp range. This site says Parnelli Jones' team was responsible for the development of the turbo engine before Cosworth joined. https://www.museumofamericanspeed.org/cosworthindyengine.html

Correct, officially. There were DFW, DFX, DFY, DFZ, DFL, DFR and DFS variants (and maybe others). I couldn't tell you the differences, though there were some 3.5L and 4.0L variants in the mix.

This site says Parnelli Jones' team was responsible for the development of the turbo engine before Cosworth joined.

As I understand it, the Parnelli Jones team privately developed the turbo version for use here in the US, based on the DFV, but Cosworth kifed the turbo idea from them, officially developing the DFX based on what the Jones team had accomplished. I suspect there's a bit more horseshit to this story and I get the feeling that Jones and Keith Duckworth (the "worth" in Cosworth) weren't on each other's Xmas card lists.

I would imagine the high end. I'm asssuming the boost was driver-adjustable but possibly had a max capped by regulations.

Feck that! Short of blowing it up, nothing you could do to one of those things couild make me want it. I think they are soul-sucking vehicles. :D

I feel similar, it's one of those vehicles I want nothing to do with, however, there are days in traffic when I really want an up-armoured vehicle that I care little about. An already beat AWD van with giant push bars front and rear and some safety restraints inside would fit that bill. I'd be in the news trying to outrun "the force".

A built storm chasing vehicle might fit that bill too. This one is even called "Dominator".

Now I'm day dreaming about driving through Charlotte traffic.

@Squatch that neighborhood with the Chevies also had this 4-door Dart. It looked like it was in good condition and drivable. There was lots of old iron sitting around in this little neighborhood. Another house down the road had 2-3 '70ish Olds, but I couldn't get a pic of those or the Galaxie. Birds of a feather.

My future father-in-law had a 66 Rambler Rogue , when I first started to meet my future and only wife.
290 2 bbl. , 3 speed auto on the console . Looked just like this without the wheels and white letter tires. He sold it to a guy I knew in school who promptly crashed it . It was fixable , but not by that guy .

My buddy has that car's twin, only it's a 343, 4-spd car, if'n I recall correctly. He's actually considering selling it, along with all of his other Americans. Shall I inquire?

That's no way to live.

Why? What's wrong with a '71 C-10? 🧐 Fine vehicle, and I'd like to have one. I'd have a '67 if a particular family member hadn't been such a dickhead... 😖

Meaningless. Never consider any of that when toy shopping. :sneaky:

This explains so much about your current vehicle situation, and possibly how it came to be... :D
