Well.... we were planning on keeping our last Jeep forever unless we found the right LJR for the right price... and it happened the week before memorial weekend this year. I was looking at Jeeps on eBay and came across this 05 Red LJ Rubicon with only 41,750 miles in Virginia. We flew out the Saturday before Memorial Day, drove down to Auburn, AL, and then drove it back to Texas on Memorial Day. Nice little 1,500 mile trip and a good way to break in the Jeep. Specs below as well as some stuff the Jeep came with.

Factory mopar receiver hitch
3-4 inch Nth degree springs
Spacer kit for the transmission skid plate
Rancho shocks
Rocky ridge upper and lower control arms with Currie Johnny joints
5.13 Rusty off-road gears
Speedo adjustment module
35 inch Falken tires
AEV TJ bolt pattern argent pintler rims
Bestop oversized tire gate
Rusty’s off road front bumper
Quadratec replacement fog lights
Has some upgraded speakers (not sure the brand)
Modified factory style radio with aux Jack.
Hard top
Soft top
Bikini top
Hard top hoist
Mirrors for when the doors are off

This is the Jeep we sold. We kept the red half doors, banks cool air intake, mopar Half top, mopar chrome grill, Smittybilt winch, factor 55 fair lead, factor 55 ultra hook, KC 10 inch light bar, Rubicon express front disconnects, Rubicon express rear extended sway bar links, and N-Fab rock rails.

Sold it within 10 minutes. No joke. Put it on Craigslist, got a call within 10 minutes and the guy showed up with cash. He even paid me another $200 to swap some stuff from his Jeep over to the one he just purchased. It only had 83,616 miles when we sold it. Bought it bone stock, did some modifications and ended up getting our money back out of it and then some.

Here is the new Rubicon the day we picked it up.

First thing I did when we got it home was strip it down and wax/buff it. I removed the rock rails, fenders, bumpers, and etc. there are a few rock chips mostly around the doors (assuming when the previous owner was taking them on and off), some rust on the windshield hinges, and door hinges. I’m probably going to end up getting them taken off and redone. Can’t decide if I want to paint them red or powder coat them black.

I repainted the front bumper and installed our winch. Will probably sell the 10 inch light bar and buy a nice set of round KC LED’s. I installed the N-fab rock rails, picked up a set of the removable steps. I may at one point want to get some other bumpers but decided I wanted to beef up some other things first.

I just purchased:
Gen 2 ball joints
Banks exhaust
Currie tie rod upgrade
Teraflex steering stabilizer
I may also be purchasing a new rear adams drive shaft sooner before later so I can have the spacer kit removed.

Parts I’m wanting to buy in the near future:
Speakers
Seat covers
Front drive shaft
Bumpers (still torn if I want poison spyder front and rear or if I want just the mopar front and keep the factory bumper and receiver hitch in the rear until I can find a mopar rock crawler rear to match.)
Headlights
Bumper lights
Different tires (maybe - Falken’s aren’t my thing)
Moab rims as a back up for off roading
1 inch body/1 inch motor mount
High clearance skid plate
Taillights (maybe)

As of right now I’m just stock piling some parts that I’ll probably get installed in the next 2-3 weeks and have been focused on just getting it cleaned up to our standards. It was undercoated at one point but there is some rusty spots on the frame. Tub is near perfect. Just the frame. Nothing a grinder and a can of rust preventitave spray paint can’t fix. With only 43,500 miles on the Jeep right now this will probably be the last one we ever buy. We have three tops and 2 sets of doors. Just want to make it right and enjoy it for what it is.

Can't wait to see progress on here, I am a huge fan of the well built LJR's and have been very conflicted recently on wanting to get one maybe someday. I have to say it looks great in Red and love the AEV wheels.

I appreciate it! So far it’s my favorite Jeep we have ever owned and we have owned a lot of Jeeps!

Check out the beef!

New G2 ball joints, new Currie steering, new hubs and new teraflex steering stabilizer. You can see the difference in the tie rods in the photos.

Check out the rust build up on our knuckles. Our hubs were toast. The seals were coming undone and we decided now is the best time to replace the hubs. The knuckles were too far gone and couldn’t be cleaned up. Luckily my buddy had a spare set. He cleaned them up and painted them before reinstalling everything on the Jeep. He is putting the new banks exhaust on tomorrow and then I’ll be picking it up.

Also picked up a new to me Mopar front bumper for $170. I’m going to have it re powder coated along with the factory rear bumper. I’m selling some JK parts I have in the garage to buy some KC LED headlights and KC LED off road lights for the bumper. Will be sweet when I’m finished! More updates on the way.

Got some more shots of the new steering set up. Pretty much rebuilt the entire front end except for the axle shafts lol.

Also I did the impossible tonight! I was able to adapt JK factory LED headlights to a TJ. They said it couldn’t be done! It’s not perfect but I finally got it to work. I just ordered the wiring harness adapters and have to wait for them to come in before I can adjust them some more and see how well they shine. Sucks but at least the hardest part is done lol.

Now all I need to do is get the mopar front bumper powdercoated, find a matching rear that someone doesn’t want an arm and a leg for, and then figure out a way to make a housing for the factory JK matching LED fog lights for the front bumper. Things are coming together!

Always have the chrome grill?

Not much of a fan of the chrome grill, but I like those JK LED headlights. First time I've seen them on a TJ.

If I didn't have the Vision X headlights, I'd likely be running those. I really want to see if it's possible to put the JL LED headlights in a TJ.

Unless you want to do some cutting it would be near impossible. They aren’t 7 inch lights. These barely fit. The new JL headlights are 8 inches I believe.

I love the nice clean look of your Jeep. It seems like everyone over does it around here with too many extras.

Brown Santa came early! The wiring harness adapters came in. I made the adjustments and think they are right on point. Will be going for a test drive tonight! The photos make the lights look yellow but they are actually crystal clear.

Best decision ever made. I’m going to have some type of mount made for the factory JK fog lights to put on the mopar bumper. Will be pretty cool when I’m done.

Got a write up on this headlight conversion and what it cost ya?
I bought the headlights used on Facebook for $380. They usually run $800 new. I bought the matching fog lights for $80 and those run $400 brand new.

The photo below shows it all. The factory TJ bezel is on the left and the JK bezel is on the right. You just have to remove this ring, take the screw studs out, and put the studs in the new lights. After that you put everything back together like you took it apart. The studs are what is used to position the headlights. You may have to zoom in on the photo to see the screw studs I’m talking about.
