TJ front speaker recommendations?

My front speakers are trashed. The front right on is not working at all and the front left one works, but cracks when there is any bass at all. Just wondering what you guys are running and if I should go stock size or bump up to those ones where you have to add a plate and stuff. Looking for good sound and good price. Thanks!

Is your audio 100% stock? If yes, order some 5.25" from Crutchfield as you will get free mounting rings and pigtails so you can easily connect to your OEM harness. Here are a few options, all good. Any specific questions just ask.

Hey man, thanks for the links. Will all of them sound better than stock? Will I have to do any fab work since the stocks are 4x6? I’m probably going to go with the Rockford’s because I think that is what I have in the rear from the P.O. I can’t tell though. And it will plug right in, right?

I'd go with either Polk DB series or Kicker as both of those brands have a >90 dB Sensitivity which means your amplifier will have no trouble providing enough power to them. My preference is Polk. Convert the 4x6 space with a bracket like Crutchfield can provide that will allow you to mount round 5.25" speakers up front which sound better than oval speakers do.

Hey man, thanks for the links. Will all of them sound better than stock? Will I have to do any fab work since the stocks are 4x6? I’m probably going to go with the Rockford’s because I think that is what I have in the rear from the P.O. I can’t tell though. And it will plug right in, right?

No fab work...literally plug and play...well you have to screw in the mounting ring into the existing holes...so literally no cutting or anything, just a screwdriver.

You could look for some boommat housing, if wanted. It helps, not earthshattering, but helps.

The JL Audio 5.25" has slightly better ratings than the Polk for the same price. I'm a bigger fan of JL Audio over Polk, so personal taste there.

I used the Polk 5.25 speakers in the little molded boxes that squeeze into the space. Big improvement. Keep in mind, Jeeps are maybe the worst arena for car stereo, don’t expect high end sound in such a noisy environment. Loud and reasonably clear is more realistic.

I 100% agree, no argument whatsoever. Some people like to find a cheaper option so I posted that 88db since it is 40 bucks. Just trying to give the OP a few options, but again, completely agree with you about the delta between 88db and 91db.

I want it as cheap as possible too because I have other mods that are more important and don’t want to spend $100 for two speakers.

Those are really expensive so I posted the $5 boom mat pods, which for this installation location is perfect. Plus, the speakers are $40, so tough to swallow spending $80 on those pods.

Yeah, those Rockfords or Kickers will suit you just fine. For your install application, the overhead speakers are more critical than those front ones. I have a 2006, so I dont know what you can fit in your 1997 or 98, I think that's your year. If you can get 6.5" in the overheads then by all means do that.

Yeah, mine is a 98 and the overhead ones are clear and loud. I could always put the new ones in the tears and the rear in the front, since the new ones will be better. I haven’t driven my Jeep at speeds of over 25mph, so I don’t know how loud it needs to be. I’ll probably get the Rockford’s. Kickers if I can spare the extra dough.

I just took my front two out and got a bigger pair that I wired below that has a magnet on them and stays to the side where your feet are. Sorta ghetto but just an idea for you
