The perfect Jeep engine

Anything that could deliver the following:

Minimum 25mpg
Enough HP to make Interstate travel doable
Enough torque to make it over obstacles
Gasoline

Aside from all the techy stuff you'd have to swap over, the 3.5L Ecoboost out of my F150 would be about PERFECT for a Wrangler. It has a real flat torque curve from about 1500 RPM to about 4300...at 420 Ft-lbs or so! 360'ish HP too, but you want the torque in a Wrangler. Its all aluminum to boot. LOTS of complicated stuff to deal with though...Direct injection, intercoolers, twin turbos, etc.

I have 3 diesels now and have owned many. They tow well. They last . They outlast all their peripheral components . They get progressively more expensive .

A small , deleted , turbo diesel would be cool in a jeep , and you will see that in 2019 in the JLU .

One question is overall performance , on and off road , and big engines in a light chassis can possibly have traction issues off road (in short they blow out the tires grip with too much power) ....this is where the 4.0 shines ..... It's pretty good all the way around and really good off-road for the Jeep's size...and it's very forgiving of bad pedal control , as well as about everything else you do or dont do.

If the 4.0 had more upper mid and too end on the road ,without losing the bottom , it would be the package .

How do you guys feel about the 3.6 in the jk/jku models?

I’ve never driven one but as much as many of us hate on them they certainly have some benefits

The list of the five best things I saw about the new JL Rubi was pretty cool!!

Ford and Mazda were more than kissing cousins for quite a few years. All the American OEMs did "technology exchanges" with Japanese companies when they were trying to get better. In fact, the original duramax engine is basically an Isuzu.
Case in point...1984 ford Laser and the 1984 mazda 323...very, very similar cars.

I really like the 3.6 in my 15. It's really smooth and has good power. At least half of the reason I pick a V8 for the daydream swap is, I just love the sound of a v8.

The perfect motor for our Wranglers will be electric. There will be a day soon when we will be able to swap the internal combustion engines in older vehicles for an electric motor and battery packs with a practical range and solar recharging.

It will be clean and quiet. Huge amounts of torque. No transmission. Likely no need for an under drive transfer case. The weight distribution will be tunable.

Maybe...Maybe not. Lithium has a LONG way to go before its viable for that type of use and Lead Acid is WAY to heavy. You're right though...Electric would be ideal.

The problem with electric. You can bring extra gas. Not so much with electric. I like the ability to have 20+ gallons of extra fuel.

While currently there is only one electric vehicle that has the ability to use the car like you normally would. (Telsa). Every other can manufacture has gone to hybrid. Or has such a bad range you can not use it to go where you want.

Solar panels on your house is great during the day. But don't work at night. So we sell the power back to the electric company. Inturn they turn off certain power plants. (You can not make more power than you use). Then sell you power that is generated when you need it at a higher price.Only one company that i know of has a good power storage system. (Tesla) but why would solar companies want you to store that power for later use when they can sell you grid power.

Where is the big push to make the world better. It doesn't exist!!!! The world just wants to sell you something that makes you think you are changing the world. The idea of being environmentally friendly is just big business makeing money in a different way.

I'm just waiting for them to have swappable battery packs for electric cars.

Pull up to a charge station, pull your empty out, pay the swap fee for a full charge, put it in your vehicle and off you go. Like propane tanks at gas stations.

Only problem is getting battery energy density high enough to make it where you can get a couple hundred miles on a package the size of a telephone book or something.

After a certain point it no longer exists as a jeep. I think that took it past that point.

Thats the problem with swapping in a diesel like that. Once you get through all the issues that come with getting the engine in there, you no longer have much of the jeep left. He actually rolled that Jeep in devils hot tub in Moab. Ended up parting it out. The Jeep doesn't exist anymore unfortunately.

Could the 4.0 be better ?

Anyone here have a supercharger on one?

Is it great? Will it kill it?

Just watched a couple YouTube videos. People have done it. There is a nice one of a drag race.

Could not find enough information on the torque curve to tell if it was even helpful. Now obviously you will gain horsepower. But im more intrested in torque.

But also be careful. We dont want to start the super vs turbo charger fight. Aka coke vs Pepsi - ford vs chevy
