Are TJs a bad influence?

Last week I was gassing up my old desert sled and a local Emirati was also fueling up his ratty old TJ (it looked great). Naturally we were compelled to admire each other's rigs and he posed this question. Does your Jeep make you misbehave? He went on to say he has a 577 hp G63 and a garage full of other fast cars and his old Jeep is the one that gets all his tickets. It made me think. While I am inclined to be a basically polite driver, I do get the urge to be rowdy behind the wheel of the Jeep and I tend to strut with the Jeep where I would be tame in a car. While it is not a rig that induces me to speed, grabbing the wheel seems to trigger the firing of some maniacal synapsis that would otherwise remain dormant.

No sir. We are the bad influence.

On a serious note, I feel 19 again when I drive mine.

Funny. I turn 19 next month and it takes every bit of me to not drive my tj like a race car like a 19 year old would. But I’m gonna have to say that my tj is a bad influence because I realize what mod I want next every time I look at it. Then us forum members just increase the influence with their advice.

I think if you own the TJ you don't really care too much about creature comforts and maybe a dose of 'the devil may care' attitude. (doors off )
Add to that a bucketfull of go-anywhere freedom that Jeep give us and a pinch of knowing that we all drive a legend in the vehicle world and you have a few ingredients for a rowdy driver haha.
The TJ awakens the sleeping rowdy giant within us all. haha

Don't know about that, I used to get tickets fairly regularly until I got a jeep... It calmed me down, I have no stress driving the jeep. (even when my iffy alignment has me with a 2 handed death grip one the wheen and the tires are making me Def, I still feel relaxed) I just cruze along in the right lane doing the limit on the highway. On the side roads it takes so long to get up to speed I'm stopping again before I go fast enough for the cops to notice... So again, no problem.

There must have been a time
when we could have said no.

I definitely drive my jeep like you'd expect a 17 year old kid to drive lol. Doesn't help that I like the noise it makes when I put my right foot down.
I agree to the noise thing...mine gives a crackle when I down shift from 3rd to 2nd..love it

My TJ is my slow and relaxing driver. I'm never in a rush while driving it, and just enjoy the cruise. :)

This is pretty much where I am. Maybe not exactly slow but definitely not fast. I will admit to being just a hair over 70 mph a couple times on the freeway but I try to avoid the divided highways whenever possible.

The journey has always been my destination.

With 3.07 gears, I'd have to try hard to get speeding tickets, but with a manual, every red to green light is a drag race. I also always seem to be looking for things to drive over.

I think I behave better in my TJ.
I think I'm more courteous/polite because my vehicle stands out more, and I feel like I'm "representing" Jeeps and the Jeep club I'm in. I know that I'm receiving more attention than most other cars that blend together in looks, so I drive extra cautious so I don't promote a negative reputation for myself and other Jeep drivers.

My friend in his classic car does the same - more eyeballs on your vehicle to remember you by - what impression do you want to give them?

However, I've noticed I'm a little more "reckless" in the fact that I drive over snowbanks, ruts in the back alley/curbs/etc...not necessarily on purpose, but the fact that I easily drive over them without issue in my Jeep vs a low car.

I haven't got any tickets myself (yet) and I am not inclined to speed with it. That said, when I drive the TJ, everything I see looks like a road.
