Doing a little calculating

Putzing around this morning looking at the build lists for the two Wranglers in the family, and I think my head just popped.

Let's see, another set of wheels and tires, but 17" and 35's. Four sets of gears and install kits. One set of selectable lockers and one set of TruTracs. Eight axle shafts. An SYE kit and drive shaft. A suspension kit for a JK and control arms for a TJ. Two winches, one front bumper and two rear bumpers. Four sets of auxiliary lighting, two front and two rear. Another CB setup for the JK. A tummy tuck for the TJ. An OBDII reader / programmer that covers all three rigs. Another set of trail gear for the JK. Misc. recovery gear for the JK. A new ice chest. Another basic tool kit. Another first aid kit. Lock boxes for the JK. Another Viair air pump for the larger tires. Four sets of tire chains. The list goes on...

I think I need another job.

Oh yeah, welcome to the club. I've already got 20k into mine at least, and there's still no end in sight. I can't imagine having two... It would be like a sick addiction.

Maybe this is where you draw the line and tell your wife to mod hers, and you stick to just modding yours. Haha!

Don't imagine it and don't do it. Trust me. Two jeeps AND a woman is even worse.

I'm broke all the time cuz one goes down or needs repairs and then when I fix it up the other goes down or needs repaired and then the woman needs something. It's a never ending money pit.

It IS a sick addiction...but we do use the snot out of them for their intended purposes. So...

Oh, and I'll let you tell a fifty something red headed alpha female that she can modify her own damn Jeep. Tell me how that works out for you. I know that if I did that, I'd be living in your backyard in my wall tent for awhile.

This is the first time that we've had two Jeeps in the family. Luckily, they both seem low maintenance at the moment and the wife has been low maintenance forever...

And I have a '99 Suburban that goes off road too. It's our long distance, long duration expedition rig. Total beast and reliable as all get out. So there's maintenance and repair on that as well. Right now it needs a distributer and some gaskets replaced. And a power steering hose. And a tune-up. I'm not making myself feel any better.

Oh man, just shoot me now and get it over with.

Mine are 99 and 01 with 108k and 122k so they are getting old and in need of constant up keep, at least until every single part has been replaced (getting there). It is still better than having a monthly payment.

I've got two '99's and a '12 in the family now. One's got 175,000 mile on it, the Suburban, and the TJ has about 100,000 miles on it. The JK is a '12 with 20,000 miles on it and a few factory induced glitches that need to be rectified. One's paid for, one's almost payed for and the other one just showed up in the last month. But, I can work on all three of them so there is at least that going for the situation.

I think there's a good chance that your modification list will outlive you.

Hell, at this rate mine will outlive me too!

I think a line just needs to be drawn! Like I'd like adjustable track bars, but I really don't need them for my 2" lift. I'd like an SYE, but I don't plan on lifting my Jeep anymore, which would cost even more money in the first place, so I just don't need one!

At least y'all aren't like the guy who has 80k wrapped up into his brand new pickup truck, 35" tires, lifts and all kinds of shit, and never lets a spec of mud touch it. ...you know exactly who I'm talking about...

There's the list, and then there's THE LIST. I'll never get the list done, we'll see about the other. But a man has to have aspirations, right? Other than some minor crap it's all really just wants, not needs. I mean, the wife can live with her "pimp wheels" if she has to.

A line does have to be drawn, yes.

However, I always say that we're born with nothing and we die with nothing. That being said, it's what happens in between that matters most.

Maybe we blow a lot of money on our TJs, but it makes us happy, and one day we're going to die anyways!

But that's quite a good philosophy! You certainly don't take anything with you when you die.
