Driving the tj a lot more since winter has finally left us and weather getting better and I have noticed a few things on my tj that I haven’t really fixed or dealt with purely out of laziness or I’ve tried to fix with no success.

1. Shift knob shift “diagram” upside down. Slowly spins around in any direction except the correct position.
2. Aftermarket radio bezel pops out when pressing buttons on the radio. Have to constantly snap it back in
3. Half door hard to close/open. Have to push down on the door when closing

All annoying but just not annoying enough to sit down and fix....yet. What’s your pet peeve on your TJ that you choose to just deal with?

My driver door lock cannot be unlocked from the inside. I always open the passenger door for my wife first, and she always tries to unlock my door for me from the inside. For some reason it won't disengage. It can be locked, just not unlocked. I haven't taken the door off to inspect it yet.

I once locked myself in and had to roll down the window and use the key to let myself out!

1. Steering wheel is a tiny bit off centre. I've tried to fix it but it never goes perfectly straight.

2. Wires under drivers seat bang on floor whenever I go over bumps.

Can’t remember the last time I locked my doors lol

Same with my steering wheel. I adjusted it 3x in a week and it’s either slightly crooked towards the driver side or the passenger side. Never in the middle😡

There's always some sort of commentary about how much folks love the 4.0. I am not one of those being a fair bit more objective and pragmatic than most. I recalled my disagreements with many over that the other day and then it dawned on me that for all of my disdain, I happen to own 6 of them. I may need to re-examine my hypocrisy meter one of these days.

Please PLEASE please report back if you find the solution - I have the same thing on my passenger side but too many other to-do items before checking it out ha. I have to unlock it and lock it all from the outside. Works fine with the key on the outside but the inside lock is useless.

Other things:
- Occasional squeaks when going over bumps/uneven road that I have yet to track down
- Squealing/loud breaks. I've checked them, shop has "checked" them, father-in-law gave them a once over - everything appears to be in working order. Haven't spent too much time on it and have only narrowed it down to happening as I am slowly coming to a stop. Does not occur at higher speeds when breaking, only as I approach the light/sign.

In my previous TJ, when I first got it the locks would stick shut. I didn't lock it at all because it was a bear to unlock. We drove from Arizona to Moab and Yellowstone on a 12 day road trip with all our gear stuffed in the back and didn't lock it once (for fear of being locked out). Didn't have a single issue on the entire trip or any other time.

I was able to fix the problem with some lubricant on the mechanism inside the door. However, as soon as we were able to lock it, the was Jeep broken into twice a few weeks apart.

  1. Bad clock spring. I don't really care much about the airbag (not a dd), but sometimes it just feels good to lay on the horn when some idiot pulls out in front of me...
  2. Bad Alignment - again, not DD, and I bang the hell out of it anyway
  3. Slow leak in one tire - cheaper and easier to just to put air in the damn thing
  4. Sketchy aftermarket stereo head unit - It decides when I can change the station and the volume. I'm at its mercy. lol
  5. Temperamental light behind dash - one bulb goes on-and-off randomly. I really have no desire to pull the dash at this point. It's just one of the bulbs, so I can still see the gauges just fine. :)
Oh the joys of jeeps. :)

1. The rough ride!!!
2. The shitty speakers ( I have both sets of Polks just to lazy to get my fat ass in the rear seat to do them.
3. The rough ride!!!
4. Cant adjust the heat off hot. ( broke off the knob)
5. Stock 4.11’s with 35’s
6. The small mirrors
Other than those items, I don’t have any pet peeves.

After reading others.. I have very little to complain about (knocks on wood).

Mine has a tiny squeak when disengaging the clutch sometimes, otherwise the rest of the rattles and stuff are all expected with a Wrangler.

There's always some sort of commentary about how much folks love the 4.0.

This statement makes me question, what are there differences in the 4.0 when put into Cherokee/Grand Cherokee? One of the first vehicle I drove was a 67 cherokee with the 4.0. It had three speed manual on the column. My recollection it was a speed monster : ) Sure, I was 16 and it was my the first car I drove (belonged to my mom), but I don't recall it being under powered. More recently, the 4.0 in both a 96 and 99 Cherokee, Grand Cherokee. These vehicles are bigger and heavier than our TJ's, but I remember the Cherokees accelerated quicker. Is my memory faulty, or the transmission/axle gearing was better suited for the 4.0 in the cherokee platforms?

Same. It’s all minor things. But it did do a weird weak start up earlier today where it shuddered for a bit🤔

The answer to number 3 is adjust your hinges. It's really easy. Just loosen them a little. Put a paint stick under your door with it closed. Then tighten them up. It's not closing easy cause the hinges have the locking mech missing each other. Not a good fit.

Mine are:

1 Not being able to reach my shift knob. I have to lean down. But I'm 6'3". Same reason I hate the console height. But I'm gonna put a pad on it to bring it up to where I can rest my arm.
2 That it sucks all my money. And will probably continue to for some time. lol. Problem is I love spending the money. ;)
3 I don't like that the hard hood latch doesn't really hold the hood down tight. I like the rubber clamps. But still. They both should hold it down tight.
4 I'll think of something. I apparently love bitching about stuff. lol.

Yea I read the other thread about it. It’s on the to do list. Need a heat source to loosen the torx bolts. Maybe I’ll tackle it this weekend because it’s getting really annoying. If it was the passenger side I’d leave it alone lol

If the half doors weren't original to the Jeep. They may not have loctite. I would be very careful with flame around my paint. I mean maybe your paints screwed so it doesn't matter. Then it's fine. But if you have nice paint. Just try a ratchet first. Or even a screwdriver. Some lube. If your paints nice it's gonna burn off way before that bolt heats up enough from an open flame.

Just my 2 cents.

I tried with a ratchet and it just turned the paint that’s in the torx head. I don’t plan on using a flame or high high heat. I was going to buy a heat gun with a directed tip to just heat up the bolt head and test it on one bolt. The doors are nice so melting the paint is not an option.

Hmmm... my drivers door window sometimes will slant forward making it difficult to crank up. I’ll have to pull up on the glass a tiny bit to continue rolling up.

The ARB switches were placed on the left side of the steering wheel in a vertical line. I was assured “ this is how you do it” by the installers. My knee sometimes hits the buttons when getting out of the jeep.

One dash light out that just drives me crazy but not enough to take it apart until warm weather.
