Has anyone re-powered their TJ or any other model with the big cube inline 6 cylinder models that were made by GM & Ford ? Referring to the 300 cu.in. Ford and the 292 cu.in. GM offering.
Re-power usually means swapping a V8 of some description into the engine bay ...... well, how about those old workhorse inline 6's ......
Just curious ....

ps. Wouldn't you just love to show up at the local car show with your '67 SS Malibu ....... pop the hood, and watch the look of horror on the faces of the 'purists' when they gaze at that 440 cu.in. Cryco, or Henry's best .... 239 cu.in. tri-carbed 'flattie' .....

So .... who has one of those 'stovebolt type' 6's lurking under the hood ?

Crap... I only know of V8s and a few Cummins 4BT swaps.

So TJ no, but CJ2s... A common swap was a Studebaker straight 6 flattie because the engine was a direct bolt up to the CJ2 bell housing. Another swap for the CJ2 was to the Henry flattie. But it took more changes. For a TJ I'd look at a 4.2 stroker or an old 304.... if I wanted something retro or eye opening.

For practical bolt on power in a TJ... an old 4.0L plus a Banks Turbo.... or a supercharger. Both cool, reliable ways to add enormous power. Not cheap but if you track all the expenses of swapping.... probably not any more expensive either... and maybe a weekend project.

The stock 4.0 is already a (edited 242) straight six.

Edit: I was thinking of the older 4.2 which is not quite 292.

Last I heard 4L is 242 cubic inches.

But Mexico made the 4.2L with a bigger bore for 4.6L or 282 cubic inch.

If you are doing an engine swap - I'd imagine that swapping to a diesel is the only worthwhile swap? Unless - you don't want the added weight.
