What's the difference in full door part numbers?

I have a 1997 TJ. I bought it with a soft top and half doors. I bought a hardtop and full steel doors off of a 2003 TJ and have been using them just fine. A deer ran into me the other night and caved in my full steel door. I took it to the body shop for an estimate and I never thought to tell them that the door was a 2003. The estimate includes a new full steel door but I looked up the part number just out of curiosity and it says it is for a 2001 TJ only. I looked up the part number for a 2003 and it is different. Likewise the part number for a 1997 is different as well. Here are the part numbers:
1997 = 4864668AE
2001 = 5517653AD
2003 = 5517653AI

My question is - what is the difference in the doors? Should I notify the body shop that he has spec'd a 2001 door instead of a 2003? wondering if there really is a difference and if so will it matter? Any help is appreciated.

The only difference between the doors from 97-06 TJs would be that you either had a choice of full doors or half doors (so I'd make sure some hard door part numbers), different interior door panel colors (black, grey, or tan), and the exterior mirror (assuming it's part of the door assembly) was different in 03-06.

Other than that though, there's guys on here all the time who put 97 doors on their 2003 and vice versa. There shouldn't be any differences at all other than what I mentioned.

I will tell you that those last two part numbers don't bring anything up at all when you search on Google, they appear to be invalid.

BTW, I would still tell the shop it's a 2001 door, just incase!

The only difference I can think of is the interior door panels were different colors. I think it was slate vs agate vs camel (their is probably another color in there as well). The exterior door skin and frame should be the same since a hard top from 1997 will fit a 2006 and vice versa.

As above, there's no significant difference. I have purchased different doors twice over the years and the model year they came off didn't matter. At least not in a way that I could see.

Thank you all! I will not worry about it then. I'm pretty positive the new door will come in with nothing other than the frame. The body shop said they will use the lock, linkages, window, seals and interior panels from my old door.

I was going 60 down the highway and she came running at me... the angle and direciton she was running was right in my blind spot of my "A" pillar. I didn't see her till a fraction of a second before she hit right into my driver door. ripped off the rear fender flare.

No doubt, I can tell it did! No frame damage or anything though?

nope... just door,rear panel has some very shallow dents that you can not see in this pic and the rear fender flare... thats it.

Sounds like it should be pretty easy for them to fix then, thankfully.

Yup...I had a heat seeking deer incident last year. It ran across 3 lanes as I hit the brakes and swerved from the right lane to the third lane while looking over my shoulder to make sure it was clear. When I turned back to look ahead, it hit the fender in front of the door and rolled down the side. $2500 for a new fender and door skin plus paint. The deer? It jumped up and ran off... They're not very smart.

It ran across 3 lanes as I hit the brakes and swerved from the right lane to the third lane while looking over my shoulder to make sure it was clear. When I turned back to look ahead, it hit the fender in front of the door and rolled down the side. $2500 for a new fender and door skin plus paint. The deer? It jumped up and ran off... Yea, not sure what they are thinking... Im guessing they think they can run right through... mine got up and ran off too.

A big buck caved in the hood of my old '66 VW beetle, I couldn't believe the damage it did. Not to mention the impact rudely woke up the guy riding shotgun on the way back to my military base by him getting a busted lip from the impact. I had no idea he hadn't buckled his seat belt, he learned a good lesson.

yep, been there. the deer came out of the ditch, took out the headlight and hood and his hooves caved in both doors on the right side. There was already some dents on the left side.

My wife was out of the country and by the time she came back we had repainted the car from the windows down..... she thought it looked great.... we never told her.

Glad she is not on this forum lol.

To put that ^^^ in prespective, the NWT is the same size as Texas but the population is 25,000 people. Gas stations can be 200 miles apart and are often in communities of 200 people or less. The urge to do 100mph is limitless... until a bison is on the road at midnight... or 100 bison.
