I have a 98 wrangler 2.5l 5 spd with 136000 miles on it that I just purchased. New water pump ,radiator , oil pump sensor, spark plugs and wires. My motor has a ticking sound( not loud loud) I really cant hear it from the cab but when I get out I can hear it and i can also smell what seems to be antifreeze and my heater does not blow hot air ,it just blows cool air out. Can someone give me some ideas or directions to try and pin point some of these problems. Thank you

The ticking sound you hear is more than likely the ever so common lifter tick or en exhaust manifold leak.
Start by checking your antifreeze level and make sure it's full. Engine temperature going up to where it should?
Consider replacing the thermostat if not. Bleed air from the cooling system and report back if it helps or not.
Temperature stays the same and I have not checked the thermostat and it doesnt not have air conditioning on it but the heat does not work which i gotta figure that out also. Thanks
Ok what can I do about the lifters, are they easy to replace on the 2.5 and I was thinking about putting a new exhaust manifold on there cuase I do no its has a leak but I did not know that it made a ticking sound so I'm hoping that it . What kind of manifold or upgrades on the motor would you recommend. Thank you
Check your serpentine belt tension.
My 97 2.5L did the same thing.
The loose belt was allowing the water pump to turn slower so it boiled out some anti freeze.
Clinched up the belt and problem gone.

I know there was a new water pump installed on the jeep before I purchased it.i do not know how old my serpentine belt is though

I had a blown gasket at the header and a cracked header
I put on a stainless steel Banks manifold .
I am surprised... My bottom end power is noticeably stronger and smoother. Noticeably .
one thing you might want to consider is putting a rigid hanger on the front of the exhaust system to reduce stress on the connection at the pre cats and consequently the manifold.
on the antifreeze smell in heater not working it sounds like someone removed the thermostat.
Everything could be part of the same problem or you could have a couple of different things going on.

I like the lifter noise, it's to me distinctively jeepy and kind of a signature sound if u will.

The 97 and 98 2.5L engines do not have a constant tension pulley so you have to tighten it manually, takes a 15mm socket.
Ok thanks man . I just didnt want it to turn I to anything major was the only thing I was worried about but if it's not a big deal I wont worry about the lifter cuase it is not loud at all all it's just there. This is my 1st wrangler so I have alot to learn on it .I'm gonna tighten the serpentine belt and see what that does
Look really closely with a good flashlight. Sometimes these cracks are very obvious. Mine was. You should also notice a change in noise as the jeep heats up. These cracks make Jeeps sound like sewing machines. Unfortunately there is not a decent replacement manifold either. Maybe a piece of flex pipe at the end of manifold, at the start of the tailpipe section would help absorb any stress from the rest of the system, not sure if thats why they crack, but it cant hurt.
That's about what mine sounds like. Do you have any recommendations on what I should do with my jeep as in preventative maintenance (any type of treatments etc) anything really just to keep it running at top performance. Thanks
Hopefully you have a manual. The maintenance intervals will be listed there as well as the mileage you should perform the tasks. It should break them down for you, changing oil is obviously vital. Look around and under your jeep, check all fluid levels bumper to bumper and repair and leaks you find. idk lol
