Should have stayed where you were 2 years ago, sold the TJ and got a CJ.

And I thought my old 10.5s were pizza cutters. For the snow those will be amazing. Out of curiosity did you notice any improved MPG? I would figure they are lighter and have less drag.
Good question, replaced all the O2 sensors last month, no change. Did a tune up yesterday, on the loop I drive often, 52L is now 43L so picked up 2?mpg. I drive that loop on Friday.... we'll see. I like yer thinking.

But yes, I lost 40# with this change. I'm hoping the big difference will be crossing all the rocks on the beach.

yes, not sure how I will do the flares but I'm keeping the old rims and if I sell it that is an option, 33 KO2s and these flares on the old rims. Which are 32 years old.

but...... sell it.... never. I want to drive it when my grandsons get married... in 20? years.

Bought new tires today

In 40 years of owning Jeeps I cannot think of how many tires I have had, 32s, 33s, 35, 36s. Most of them last about 45K miles, tops. I've also had several old pickups with 235/85R16s ans 7.50R16s. Some on split rims. They all got over 60K miles.

So todays purchase for my Rubicon, 5) 7.50R16s !!

Not 10.50 or 12.50 but 7.50. And 32.5" tall. On 16x6.5 steel rims with 5.25BS.
PizzaCutters !!

$40 less than KO2s, 10# less than KO2s, 15K miles more life.
Save $200 and go 33% further !!

Cost per mile will be half what my KO2s, KM2s were.

Have to cut down the flares... again.
A 2" flare will give full coverage.
I might be as skinny as an SE.

I found some 16x6.5 Rims with a 5.25" Back Space. To test out this combination.
I'm sure I'll like it so now to find some 16x6 alloys.

Holy crap, I like! What tires are those?

Kinda cool vintage looking tire.

Do skinny tires work well in the snow because they get down to the soil? Mountains around here often have a layer of melted and refrozen slush at the bottom that is turned to ice. Seems floating on the powder is gripper than digging through it but I have very little snow experience.

You guys are making me miss my old pizza cutters. To this day I still think they are the best size for a daily driver. They had much better road manners than the 12.5s I have now.

I saw a pic of it somewhere else earlier pulling a trailer.. I think it looks great!!!

My experience says tall and skinny in rocks, fat and wide in sand. A good winch, and a friend is good to have in the mud. JMHO

Why change the flares? If you're changing the wheels, you could get an offset that still fills the space. Or add wheel spacers.

He wants to be skinnier, i.e. easier to get through tight spots.

So a month later, and many miles, the ride is soo much better, and I actually average 22mpg on long highway drives. I've never got over 19mpg before. And thats without being a Nancy on the skinny pedal.
