98 tj 2.5l code p0340

My check engine light came on in my 98 tj 2.5l. Went to auto parts store and code p0340 came up . He tried looking it up and keep pulling up crankshaft/ camshaft sensor but he couldn't tell me which one so I really didnt get much information . He pulled up a sensor that's under the distributor cap but I'm not sure if that's the one it is..it said p0340 bank 1. Any help would be appreciated. Dont know if I need a new sensor or if I can clean it . Thanks

If you have a distributor wouldn't that be a pickup coil inside the distributor? not a Cam sensor?? In your case I would be more inclined to look at the Crank Position sensor. Just a guess though...

Ya he had me confused man. I'm just trying to figure out what to do. I guess I will take it to a different parts store tomorrow and see what they say. He kept pulling up some sensor that's under the distributor cap. I have no clue.. I havent had my tj long and I'm slowly replacing everything but dont want to just replace to be replacing at the same time. It's my everyday driver so trying to keep everything up to par. Thanks and I'll look into the crank position sensor

I did read a post that someone removed the "sensor" from inside their distributor and cleaned it and it fixed the problem with the same code you're getting.... It might be worth a shot to try it.
