Trunk leakage?

We apply penalties for these terms applied to a a TJ :

Car , trunk , sport bar, running board, convertible, truck, donut, cab, shell, and similar phrases . We have a manly reputation to uphold. Swagger .
Ok showing just a little bit of "roll over protection" terminology ignorance on this one.... What is it that we call the (sport bar)??

That’s the JL term for roll bar . In our world , It’s where some TJ owners go and watch football and fraternize .

When I watched that video you sent, I noticed a couple of parts that are missing. I haven't gone back through all of the replies to make sure this hadn't been covered though. Without these being mounted on either side, not only does it open up a space for water, dust, exhaust fumes, etc., The innermost tab (circled) not being there opens this problem even more, because of the gaps just above the edge of the tailgate.
You can see in my second picture how close the tailgate sits on the edge of the lower window seal, it's not much. With the tailgate hanging a bit too low on that side makes the top edge of the tailgate/lower window seal even less.

With all of the water being on the right side, I'm wondering if it isn't the missing bracket/jamb is the culprit. But, with water flowing as it does, who knows. If it were me, and I wasn't able to make a trip to Florida to make a trade with a cool dude down there😏, I'd track down those parts and order them. After the install, reasses. With the spare tire off.

Bear in mind, this is the '02 style hard top, so this would be how it looks on yours.

Except those brackets serve no purpose except to support the crossbar for the soft rear window and have no use for the Hardtop. I take mine off when the HT is on.

I could be wrong, but I believe the Jeeps that only came with the hardtop from the factory didn't come with those brackets. Only dual top or softtop ones did.

If you actually take the time to listen to the people that have tried to help you here, and fix the problem the right way, you'll find it will be much cheaper than trying to find a 2002 or older top. If there is indeed something not right with the swing out tail gate and you spend the money on a newer top you'll have wasted your money and still have a leak. The ONLY difference between 97 - 02 and 03 - 06 tops is the vents in the side of the earlier tops vs in the tailgate on the newer Jeeps. How they fit and seal to the tailgate didn't change.
My problem has nothing to do with the gate. Theres no cheapness involved because I would trade, not buy. The problem is the back glass seal

If you've straightened up your gate and still have a leak, you are correct. I bet you haven't even tried.

Does trading instead of buying really rule out cheapness? I think not.

The problem is the back glass seal

Is there anybody(?), anywhere(?), that would want to trade their top without a problem for a top with a back glass seal problem?

Keyboard is refilled with crayons. So here we go.

Again, very slowly in hopes that you understand this time because I am not repeating it again. The only difference between the 02 and 03 hard tops is the vents in the corners. If you pay attention to the listings you will note that there is no distinction between the 02 and 03 tops. The parts at the lift gate are for 97-06 tops.

If you trade your 03 top for an 02 top, you are getting the exact same glass, seals, struts, brackets, wiper, wiper cover, and if the lower seal is damaged the same way yours is, you will have the exact same problem.

I understand. I know this. Again, because I have to repeat myself for what ever reason, the point of having an 02 top on an 02 Jeep is to have the vents that help the front doors get air out. Your post is the most helpful by far. You actually gave strong supportive reasources. Based off of what others are saying about the bottom glass seal, which I agree with as the main problem, your links are fantastic.

What I worry about, again, is that this fix will impact the doors/cabin air pressure. Since I don’t have any vents what so ever and it’s very common for people in this thread to point out the possibility of the back glass breaking because of closeing the gate. Wether this is true or not, myself and everyone in here is mixed, it is a legitimate concern. I would prefer the possibility to be avoided, hense the 02 top.

If their top is less as good as mine, yeah I think so. It does rule out cheapness because I’m not spending money to solve the issue and avoiding other possible concerns. The leak is on the very right side of the jeep, the very slight gate sag is on the left. If rain was collecting, it would move left because gravity.

Not true in the least, and not even a possibility. The amount of air pressure it would take to blow out the back glass is not possible to create by closing the doors with any level of force. There is all manner of bullshit oft repeated on the internet. That does not make it true or a concern.

Everyone in here thinks it could be a possibility. You’re the only absolutest. So if I get one of the links you’re providing, and I do close my gate and my back glass does crack, break, etc. You will buy me new back glass? Are you so confident that you would be willing to be trustworthy to take that on? Are you also not of the opinion that my doors will feel more suction-ie?

I would but not straight across. I prefer the tops without vents since they are very problematic. I can replace the lift gate seal and retainer and have done so a few times. The trade would have to include enough boot, cash or otherwise to compensate me for fixing the seal.

Let me distill that down to the finest point. Anyone that believes that is a possibility is an idiot.

it would likely take something like the shock of a small explosion to detonate car glass ...

All the vents do is make the doors close without any excessive... Just a thoughtful detail by the manufacturer.... Which is astounding on a vehicle that was previously so draft in its earlier models, it really wasn't much more than a covered wagon I some cases.

Here is what the idiots overlook. Very few swap tops. Thousands swap tail gates because they don't like the vent that is in the tail gate that replaced the vents in the top. They do not break out the rear glass due to no vents.

Are you going to buy me a new glass if it breaks? You didn’t answer.
I would take that bet with a normal person of any level of mechanical ability because I trust that they would install it correctly and not do something that would allow the air pressure to kick the glass open and slam it into some metal object mounted to the tire carrier. You on the other hand, I do not trust to pour piss out of a boot with the instructions written on the heel.
