Re-gear vibe eliminated

I'm going on 3 years and counting with 40K on the re-gear, SYE, multiple drive shafts, adjustable control arms, new track bars, re-regearing the front($900 waste), rebuilt t-case, new yokes front/rear, a zillion pinion angle changes, new shocks, new thicker t-case skid, new trans mount, new motor mounts, the list goes on.

What kept you from just biting the bullet and doing the hubs ... Was just a bridge too far with money I can see how it would be
 
With the front, it may just be easier to install offset ball joints to dial in the caster. You can get 2 degree front uppers and 1.75 degree front lowers to net an extra 3.75 degrees of pinion angle without affecting caster

Not just the money, but I get vibes with the front driveshaft removed as well. Not as bad, but they are still there. I've had the drive shafts off and on so many times now I lost count.

I relive it every time I drive this hunk of junk. Between that, my AC evaporator needing replaced (no AC in the summer here sucks monkey butt), and this irritating whistle I get in the engine compartment when it's cold that I can't pinpoint, I sometimes wonder why I just don't drive this turd in the lake and leave it for fish habitat, very expensive fish habitat mind you.

I'm sure you've read thru some of my other thread. It's long, and sad.

You know I went out and paid a lot of money to get a low mileage Rubicon... I did not evaluate the list and related components well... Basically just got the fever and pulled the trigger... And I went from having too much in it to having way too much in it... And honestly the only satisfaction I could get was to not quit until I at least was happy with how it worked out.

I loved the pics of the Rubicon you did with your daughter... Definitely making the best of it.

Thanks. Those were good times for sure! It's trips like that which almost makes me forget about the stupid vibes, lol! I'll have a better attitude once I pull the hard top off this summer. It's a whole different ride with no top.

Amen.... Winter sure is long when you have a Jeep sitting there with the top on.

If regearing the vehicle increases the shaft speed.. it seems to make sense that it would have to be balance to something like the RPM for 75 miles per hour to duplicate 65 miles per hour rpm ... I may be a hundred percent wrong on that so definitely take it with a grain of salt... Whatever taking it with a grain of salt means.

I thought the exact same thing until an extremely experienced local driveshaft builder explained that Dana Spicer advised him that if a driveshaft is in perfect balance at 550 RPM it will not vibrate at any speed.

@toximus bought my TJ from me that had this same pulsating vibe after the re-gear. He solved it with manual locking front hubs, but I'm not sure he ever tried something like this with the front shaft. Might be an interesting experiment if you ever get bored @toximus.

The front driveshaft was beat. It had so much slop to it that you could move it around by hand and see it. It had also been extended by an amateur with a section of pipe welded on to extend it and was not worth rebuilding or rebalancing. Tom Woods sent me out one while I was paying in Johnson Valley and I replaced it before the drive home. The new driveshaft significantly quieted down all sorts of noise. However the noise at 65mph or so still happened. For the drive home the front pinion was pointed directly at the output of the TC which helped the vibes but still had them terrible at 80mph (speed limit for most of the drive) and made steering have nearly no return to center. The hub kit fully "solved" the problem since it can be unlocked during long trips and locked for shorter around town trips. I still do hit faster vibing speeds with it locked if I'm too lazy to deal with it or know that I'll be needing 4wd again in a few turns. It's annoying but isn't going to hurt anything.

That seems low. A driveshaft for 5.38s and 35" tires spins at around 4,000 RPM at 80 mph. (But I'm not an expert at all)

This thought is the exact thought I had after reading some of the earlier post in this thread.

It is odd that the vibrations dont show up unitl thr TJ has been re-geared which means the shaft is now spinning faster.

I would agree with that except for the fact that some of them don't start to vibrate until they get to higher speeds... I don't know where 550 RPM equates to miles per hour in the vehicle.
