Whoops you're not supposed to be driving around without the skidplate in place, that's what holds the rear of the engine/transmission/transfer case assembly up!! No doubt it's hanging by your tcase shifter and other things not made to hold that much weight. Get that skidplate back in place asap. Even when being worked on/not being driven there should be a jack under the transmission to hold it up.

I removed it gently and slowly while working on my exhaust system lol
If the lever moves super freely (there should be quite a bit of resistance) it probably came disconnected when you dropped the skid plate.
In all fairness, you did say, "since removing my skid plate the other week". You didn't say you put it back on, haha.

Well good, glad to read you had reinstalled it. It read like it was still off, which is not uncommon.
Check that the shift rod on the tcase shifter simply hasn't pulled out of position which is common. That's the rod held in place with the bolt with the 1/2" head.

Anyways, this isn't a grammar lesson. I'm simply pointing out that you confused myself and a number of others with your choice (or lack thereof) words.
The solution is the transfer case linkage assembly, I guarantee it.

Ignore it all and crawl under your Jeep and find out what became disconnected on your linkage.
That's what happens when you can't shift your t-case.
Stop worrying about how sad this is and go check the linkage and find out where it became disconnected so we can tell you how to fix it. Just in case you didn't pick up on it, you would not be the first or the last to drive around sans skid.
Sometimes it happens, just check out my title, but we really are here to help you. Don't get discouraged or frustrated. There is no better source for TJ troubleshooting and advice than here. Consider it a little "ribbing and initiation."
You can upgrade to a cable shifter by savvy and not worry able the stupid mechanical linkage ever again.
this might just be the angle, but the bracket mounted to the tub looks like it's missing some mounting bolts. I'd note its position in 2wd, then move it to another postion and recheck to make sure everything is moving, and the tab/bracket on the t-case is moving as well.
