I bought a 1999 tj 2.5l and it won't start, it will crank but no start. I put a new fuel pump and new fuel pressure regulator in it as well as plugs, cap, wires and battery. The pump will prime when I turn the key but there is no fuel pressure. I checked the wires everything seems okay and the line isn't blocked. Also I tried using a OBD 2 reader off amazon and it says I have no ECU. I am at my wits end and would appreciate any suggestions.

Buy a can of starting fluid. Remove the air intake tube at the throttle body. Spray a small amount of starting fluid into the throttle body as a second person cranks the engine over. If it starts, you have a fuel delivery issue. If it doesn’t, check your ignition system.

Stupid question, but does the tank have fuel in it?
I’d pop the fuel line off that runs from the pump to the main fuel delivery line and see if it’s actually pumping fuel.
I know on my 4.0 there is a quick disconnect by the drivers side rear shock, near the upper spring mount.
If you do this, wear safety glasses and gloves and have a clean rag ready to catch any spraying fuel that might come out.

A bad crankshaft position does not prevent the pump from pressurizing the system during the first few seconds but if the computer does not get the signal from the crank sensor while trying to start, the pump will not remain engaged.
Tank has fuel and tried this but no fuel is coming out. Like I said though the pump is priming.
It will run on starting fluid so I know its a fuel problem and I forgot to mention that I put in a new crank position sensor. Is there a sensor that would prevent the pump from working or did I just happen to buy a faulty pump?
