So the person writes an article about potential engine failure when miles are >150k on an almost 15yo vehicle who doesn't state until 3/4 through in an almost oh yea type statement that is the inline 4 that they're talking about.

You think the article writer purchased a cheap fixer upper i4 2006 jeep and then didn't check the fluids and burned up the engine, then feeling the world needed to know how bad they were?

" A car’s engine can die for multiple reasons. The most common cause is a lack of lubrication. If the engine consistently doesn’t have enough oil, it can deteriorate very quickly. Because of this, it’s important to have the oil changed regularly and watch out for leaks."

Thanks for that investigative journalism. This article was written for (and most likely by) someone who would cross-shop a Wrangler with a Hyundai Santa Fe. Too bad there isn't a comment section.

Motor Biscuit is a dumb name for a website.

And FYI guys, the site is called "MotorBiscuit" and looks amateurish at best.

This is the equivalent of a blogger giving you their opinion on the latest state of whatever.

Wonder what Toyota paid to have this article written. Wow needs rebuilt at 150k from lack of lubrication. The sad this is a lot of people don’t check fluids regularly. But this is not a reflection on Jeep it’s a reflection on the owners. In my area there are a lot of tj’s driving around at 250k plus never been rebuilt sure they have leaks but just check the damn fluid.

A guy on the forum is selling his TJ right now with 455k miles on it. Not to mention the previous guy who sold his with 600k miles.

I own a '02 4Runner as well. It's more versatile for sure, with a multi-mode transfer case. And it has the electronic goodies the TJ doesn't like traction control, stability control, and standard ABS.

For off road it really depends on how much money you throw at it. They are a lot better than Jeep fan boys will admit.

But yeah, of all the issues with older Wranglers bad engines aren't really high on the list.

If they had a solid axle I would buy one right now. But IFS sucks. I like Toyota’s, even owned a few and built them. But the articles argument is terrible.
