Yep, I wouldn't have any concerns using a Fram. They may have had issues as a brand years ago, but the Fram name has been owned by several different parent companies, and filter technology has changed. Fram is now owned by Honeywell, and the Honda OEM filter is almost identical to the Fram Tough Guard. Honda specs to change the filter every other oil change, and the ones I've cut open from my family's Hondas have looked great.

I was at a surprise 40th birthday party for a friend a few years back. He had a bottle of snake liquor (just like your pic) that he picked up in India on a work trip, and he broke it out for his birthday. I think gasoline would have tasted better.

I would never mention "Pennzoil" in the same sentence as the other two.

I think I posted in another thread about the sludge my dad and I dealt with some time in the late 70s. After that he would have said "never mention Valvoline" if he was alive and posting here.

Maybe they were ahead of Pennzoil at causing sludge, IDK, but I bet they're both better today.

Pennzoil did used to use a base that caused sludge in motors but that hasn't been the case in over 20 years since they switched to a new non-paraffin base called PureBase for their conventionals. Their synthetics have never had that issue.

My two favorite oils over the years have always been Cam2, when it was distributed by Sunoco and Penzoil.
I have never had an issue with sludge with either oil.

The only oil I do not like and will never use again is Valvoline.

Oil filters have always been either a Motorcraft fl-1 or Fram PH8A.

I change my oil every 3-4k miles and see no need what-so-ever for a high mileage/synthetic/ultra performance oil filter.

P.S. I was a corporate major accounts sales rep for a large international mainframe computer manufacturer. In competitive situations I could do boardroom presentations to make our competitor's very high quality and very expensive computers look very unworthy. It was my job to do that just like that Carquest salesman's job was.

This is why when we talk with Server/network/software reps we don't allow them to reference other competitors. If they start to we 'politely' tell them to stick to facts about their own product.

yes. I dump 6 1/2 quarts in with the larger filter.
