found a salamander today when I went to the grandparents place. I had to climb down the windmills well hole to shut off the valve for the water supply to the uninsulated outbuildings on the property. I frequently seen tons of salamanders when I was younger but rarely see them anymore.
The windmill has never been in use since they have been on the property for the past 55 or so years. but the top to the windmill blade portion is still on the property in the barn. from what I was told, it was on when the house was purchased but was blown down in a storm several years after. the well for the windmill has been abandoned (but still there under the ladder) and the pit currently serves purpose for the pressure tank of the current well several feet away.

Wife’s families dairy is celebrating 100 years since it’s founding by her grandparents who immigrated from Ireland. I pulled out the 1954 DIVCO her dad bought new and he and I restored back in the early 90s. It’s been sitting in storage for over a year, poured some fresh fuel in the intake and she fired right up. I love those simple Hercules flat head engines.

I had an old 5KW generator that was powered by a Hercules flathead 4 cylinder engine.

Yep they keep running and parts are not that hard to find through NAPA. The only issue is they made many versions of the same engine so you have to identify the correct part with your version. Mines basically 6 lawn mower engines end to end and produces 52hp. Top speed is 45mph going down hill. My FIL used to deliver milk to the local summer camps in the mountains back in the day. I have not lost a slow drag with it. In granny it goes 1mph.

That's my kind of truck!

The sun was out this morning so went out for drive to our oldest Dam Built in1906, before the thunder and heavy rain was due to arrive in the afternoon.... got some great pics. Its quite deep in the forest so they had t make their own railway to get the materials they needed to the site.

caught a trapped red breasted finch in one of the homes im working in. painters called and wanted it out of the basement. it was just sitting on the egress window sill. set my sweater over it without effort or attempt to be bitten. suspect it was exhausted from hitting the window trying to get out. held it for a bit then took it outdoors and it flew off.

Good on ya. I did the same with a hummingbird in my garage last year. Both overhead doors open but it exhausted itself trying to fly out through the ceiling. It was like holding a bit of air with feathers.
always been curious about them. I do know they basically have to eat nearly every minute to survive. a few hours of no food and they can starve or weaken to the point where they dont even have the energy to eat.

Me too! Only it was trying to fly through the closed window. It clearly remembered me weeks later: I was working on my boat by the garage and heard the hummingbird fly in to the garage and hover by the window where he was stuck, then fly over to me and hover near my face, then landed on a branch a few feet away. It sat there for a minute then flew off.

Man does that bring back memories, we used to get our dairy products delivered by a guy driving something similar. I think it was Carnation dairy. Thanks for the memories.

Grab shot taken from a 7th floor balcony of yesterday's beach video shoot. Not the best picture for sure - but a fun one nonetheless. Can you find me - and no, I'm not the videographer in the foreground!
