Blew up the Dana 35 rear, deciding on next step

Hi, I've been a lurker since I got this Tj a while back... Love the thing, it's been a daily driver and a lot of fun as well. Still completely stock, 250K miles, 4.0, manual and a Dana 35 rear 3.73 ratio. Stock tires. Well, I was horsing around the other day and blew up the rear end. Pretty...

I'm just starting to realize what a hidden gem TJ's are! For a "budget" vehicle, this is an absolute blast to drive!! I took the rear seat, most of the carpet, and the roof off just to clean things. Went for a drive (It's hot and sunny in CA right now) and was like wow this thing is awesome LOL...

    Actual seat upholstery (not covers)

@Drifter, would be really nice to see how it turned out. I'm starting to look for replacement seat "skins" for my TJ and, as Chris has pointed out, there's little to nothing available out there. These leather ones seem to be one of the few (only) actual replacement covers out there, and at $349...

What's your humvee like? Mine is an '87 M998 soft top no doors, It got a quickie military rebuild in 2008 with a new non-turbo 6.5 but they kept the original 3-spd trans. I had to do a fuel tank, alternator rebuild, went though a few glowplug control boxes and glowplugs, water pump, replaced all...

And some underside pics: And yes, she has the Dana 35 rear axle... I was secretly hoping to find a 44 hiding under there despite what the build sheet said lol

OK, finally have some photos, and spent a day playing around with her. This thing is a lot of fun! So far pretty happy no serious gripes other than a bunch of plastic knobs on the dash that need replacing, factory radio is broken, some cosmetics, etc.

lol you gonna put that in a trailer behind the Jeep and connect via a driveshaft like a Gama Goat, but backwards? I have a 6V53 in the collection of stuff, and was thinking of putting that in a Power Wagon (If I ever find one) but those are worth too much nowadays for that kinda butchery lol...

You thinking re-gear or axle swap to a Dana 44? Re a diesel, the R2.8 Cummins is tempting but I don't like the chain drive cam, and the chain is in the back (need to pull the engine to change. The 4BT Cummins (in all of it's glorious and pricey variants) is heavy and tall... I have a generator...

LOL I guess life could be worse. The 3.07 gears might be cool with a small diesel as a highway MPG optimization strategy 🤷‍♂️

Re turning wrenches, I have a humvee lol. The Jeep is a pleasure to wrench on in comparison! I do secretly want a diesel tho... If the 4.0 dies, a diesel swap would be tempting. Re FJ40's, yeah the sticker shock is intense these days. I almost got a '77 barn find for $10K which, considering the...

Hi, Alex here. I just put a deposit on a 2000 TJ Sport 4.0 5-speed manual. Sadly I won't have the Jeep till Wed this coming week and am still learning about what I got myself into lol. Miles are a bit high (220k)... Green color, hard top. It's pretty much stock. No rust at all, was originally...

    Bay Area TJ

Hi Chris! I just joined the forum after putting a deposit yesterday on a 2000 TJ sport that looks very similar to yours but not lifted. Mine has the 30/35 axles too, and has a 5spd manual. Same color too... I'm in the Bay Area as well, maybe we should get together and compare jeeps! Thanks, Alex.
