Replaced a cracked header & now it backfires

So the fuel pressure gauge from O'reilly's proved to be inaccurate. I have around 49 psi of fuel pressure. At that point I figured it was time to remove the intake and exhaust that I had installed and started this mess. I'm pretty good at it by now so I had it done pretty quickly. And found...

Replaced a cracked header & now it backfires

Went to O'reilly's today & borrowed their fuel pressure gauge. I did it twice, and it showed I had no fuel pressure..... zero. Even when I pushed the pin on the Schrader valve, I just got a few little drips out. I don't get how, if I really have no fuel pressure, that the damn thing runs at...

Replaced a cracked header & now it backfires

A buddy of mine suggested maybe a valve bent recently. The backfiring would be compression coming through.

Replaced a cracked header & now it backfires

Yea, I'm stumped too. I get that it might be a timing issue, and timing is adjusted by the ECU based on the sensors input. I've also read that backfiring thru the intake is a lean fuel condition. All I can think is to take it apart again. But what would I be looking for?

Replaced a cracked header & now it backfires

Pulled the IAC and cleaned it with some brake cleaner. It really wasn't bad, not a ton of carbon. Although it was made in Mexico so maybe it was replaced with a cheapie at some point. I haven't seen a CEL since before the job. And I don't think it's ever stalled. The idle is down 100 or so RPMs...

Replaced a cracked header & now it backfires

It's not an exhaust leak. I ran my hand all around the exhaust and intake manifold at the head and am not feeling anything. I had a buddy come over and look at it. It's very clearly coming from the intake tube....the air cleaner. Swapped out the crank position sensor and there was no change.

Replaced a cracked header & now it backfires

Found several threads mentioning the crankshaft position sensor and various misfire, backfire, non-start issues. This one in particular Looking for NTK part #s now

Replaced a cracked header & now it backfires

Thanks for the input Rubicon88. But this engine only has 10k miles on it. It ran great Saturday morning, all day Friday and Thursday after I did the work. I thought about ignition problems, but with no distributor, what can I do? The coil rail is in good physical condition. Wiring harness looks...

2002. So no distributor, has a coil rail and no spark plugs wires, cam sensor etc

Replaced a cracked header & now it backfires

Yep. I bought NTKs I thought I was resetting the ECU by just pulling the negative. Guess I'll try this method instead. Thanks

Replaced a cracked header & now it backfires

So can you tell me what it was that he did? I removed the EFI, intake manifold and the header. I installed a new Felpro gasket & new O2 sensors in stock used exhaust manifolds (the 2 pc). I tried to be really careful getting the exhaust and intake manifolds in place and properly aligned. I read...

Replaced a cracked header & now it backfires

I recently replaced a cracked exhaust header with the stock 2 pc exhaust manifolds. This involves removing the EFI, intake manifold, exhaust, unplugging all the O2 sensors and swapping 2 O2 sensors from the old header to the manifolds. After installing the manifolds I drove the Jeep about a...

    LS engine swap options?

Hey guys, Digging up an old thread. I'm considering an LS swap in the TJ, specifically a 4.8 or 5.3, and am curious about cams for low / mid range torque. I've talked to a couple guys who have done the swap and having all the power at 4400-5500 RPMs is a little less than ideal. I'm thinking to...

Mobile home internet for $50 a month?

I have a 30 mbps Centurylink fiber connection & use 3 Rokus, 3 PCs & multiple phones & tablets with hardly any buffering at all. The issue is not the speed, but the latency. Fiber has almost none. Whereas cable, cellular, microwave & satellite can have a ton. I've used the Starlink service a...
