    Project "Frankentrailer"

Nice job, the trailer can carry food and camping greater. On the front hitch you can mount two c channels facing up to hold two dirtbikes.

    Tire/wheel advice for a noob?

My biggest problem is my last build was a 1 ton truck with 400+ hp, 410: gears and 12" of lift plus 3" of body lift. All of my 4 x 4 trucks I built engines for. When I look at tires for my TJ I need to keep in mind the limited power, gearing and standard suspension. My dream TJ would be a sbc...

    Things you LIKE about TJs

My '99 TJ 4.0L auto tranny with 3:73-1 gears is ok I guess. But I miss my '80 cj7 with the 304 v8, granny four speed heavy tc, 427:1 gears and posi f&r. Dana 30 & Dana 44 she had all the best drive train wise. Fact, I purchased a Polaris quad to ride and plow snow. It was useless plowing snow...

    Transmission Syncros Shot

Either was add a moly gear oil to it. Or a can of stp to the gear oil. Moly Eliminates all wear. Reduces friction.

    31's or 32's, can't decide

On my cj I ran 33". When I add tires on my TJ it maybe 33" with a lift kit.

    The shakes

In the design when it was changed from wearing tires badly in the beginning they would chop the threads on the tires. The early 4x4's were noted for that. The new design left them with a shimmy. Thus shimmy shock. This 50/50 shock took out the shimmy or shake. If you exceed the tire size...

What did you do to your TJ today?

Nothing yet I'm in the planning stages on boxing the frame with 3/16" or 1/4" plate what ever I have the most of in the steel stock. I know vertical welds are the strongest but I was taught not to vertical weld frames. I seen frame extensions done with angled welds. Any welded splices in the...

    Rear end movement

it needs the same Geometry as stock. The lift can pull the rear to one side with the trac bar. Lower the trac bar or get a adjustable trac bar.

    Looking at a Rubicon tomorrow...

My loc-rites with one wheel off the ground either won't turn or the cam will unlock as the wheel spins faster than the other like in a turn. Remember if your on the gas putting pressure on the locker in a turn she shouldn't unlock. To test two lockers hole shot in the sand. I had one experience...

    Undercoating Question

There's rust proofing for inside the frame and outside. It stops rust in its tracks. I'm thinking about doing it but need to drill drain holes in the bottom of the frame to flush out the road sand and salt first.

    Knocking noise coming from engine

Put it four high( meaning 4wd?) and it went away? Front drive shaft u joints or front axle joints. I'm going to predict it's the u joint on the front drive shaft closest to the transfercase.

    Gear ratios and bad advice

Years ago in our drag cars no matter what gear ratio we never were on the highway above 3,500 rpm for long periods of time. Keep your rpms 3,500 and under. Above 3,500 the main bearings wearout quickly. Caution. Gearing vs tire height vs how much power the engine has. In a auto tranny what...
