I added the 3 thou and was able to run a quick pattern before work this morning. I was beginning to question my backlash because it wasn’t changing that much with my pinion adjustments. But I measured it in 3 places around the ring gear and it ranged from.0075 to almost.009 so it is what it is...

Now doing the rear axle on my 2004 Rubicon. 4.88 Revolution gears. I am not stating it but I check the rotational resistance every time to insure it is in spec. Learned that from the front axle. Finally the front axle is leaving the shop and going back under the Jeep. Re-geared to 4.88, control arm bushings replaced, new ball joints, braced up ds control arm mount, new unit bearings. Complete with ghetto paint job, lol! On to the rear axle, hopefully I learned something from this one so...

I was able to get and .002 on the pinion. Backlash is 7 and rot res is 19.
