Yup, I have and use wheel chocks or a 4x4 or anything. It was basically engrained in me from my time as an Army mechanic. I've always used one but luckily have never been in a situation where I've had a vehicle roll on me while working on it.

Yeah, that's your diff vent. If you need a new one, which it looks like you do I found one on eBay over the summer and installed because mine didn't have anything when I bought it. https://ebay.us/m/giC9mJ It says it doesn't fit TJs but I was able to tap it in with no issues.
