Carrier bearing and cup pitted. Next steps?

Finally started to knock some things off my to-do list this weekend. Ball joints, inner axel seals and pinion seal. Ball joints replacement went well, but when I took the gear set out to get at the seals I noticed the driver side carrier bearing and cap were in bad shape. The only shims I see...

    Heater core hose setup

I've never actually checked if the fan was still blowing or if it was just air being forced through from driving down the road, but I assumed because there is no "Off" labeled on the control panel that it was just the lowest speed. It has 4 dots on the fan control, from small to large. Guess it...

    Heater core hose setup

I have a 97 with no A/C, and even if I have both levers from the control panel all the way to the left, heat still escapes into the cab from the vents. I wonder if this was someway to bypass the heater core so you didn’t get that. If it is, I’d be interested in the parts used. It can get...

    Rear seat - Door hardware

I sucked one of the rear seat clips up in the vacuum quite a while ago, and have been looking around for one for a while. No luck at Ace Hardware, or Amazon. Figured I’d just drill a hole in the rod and use a cotter pin but thought I’d ask if anyone has a source first. Also looking for a door...

Swapping my old AX15 for a new one

The first thing I noticed when I purchased my 97, was the shifting in the AX15. It was just as you described above. I got several suggestions to change out the fluid, and put in Red Line MT-90. Between that and just getting used to the shifting, I haven't had issues with the transmission. Its...

What did you do to your TJ today?

Previous owner had high line type fenders on it and I like the stock look better. I was able to find some used, but they were a purple-ish color. You can kind of see them in my profile picture. The wiring was FUBAR from PO too. That was fun to figure out.

What did you do to your TJ today?

Finally got the fenders painted white and got it back together. Did hub bearings and U-joints while it was apart.

Paint & rust treatment between fender and flare

Sounds like you're on the right track addressing the rust spots. As far as those taped up holes, according to several people on here they were used to move the tub down the assembly line during production.

    97 wrangler won't crank

You may be confusing folks here. Cranking and turning over are kinda the same thin, at least to me. Sounds like it’s a fuel or spark problem. What happens if you squirt a little starting fluid down the throttle body? Are the plug’s getting spark? Is there fuel pressure? Sounds like you’re on...

New hub not sliding onto new axle spline

The only difference I see is the old stub has grooves on the splines and the new does not. Would that cause it?

New hub not sliding onto new axle spline

Both at 27 and nothing stands out with a visual look. So are there 27 spline axles that have different shaped splines? That would suck. I don’t see any burr’s either.

New hub not sliding onto new axle spline

New Crown passenger front axle and new Timken hub bearing. The hub will engage and go on maybe a 1/2” but then stops. I used a rubber mallet but don’t want to get it jammed on there and not get it off. The old stub slides in no problem. Do I have a bad axle? Or is it normally tight? Had no...

    SOLD Lots of misc parts

Didn’t see a picture of the front seats, do you have one or two to share? Im not in dire need, but if they were fully operational and in good shape I’d make the 2 hour drive. My drivers side is duct taped up and has some decent seat covers to hide it. Passenger side, the pull cord to tilt...

97 TJ Hub and Brake Rotor Measurements?

Resurrecting this thread. I have a 97 TJ, and if I’m understanding this correctly with a 2 3/4 rotor I would want the later 1/2” hub bearing? What I have currently in the pictures will work, but it will put my outer brake pad almost exactly flush with the end of the cast slider the pads rest...
