    Air filter screen

Did some routine servicing today, found air cleaner box (inlet side under the filter) half full of acorn hulls. CHIPMUNKS, ARG!!! It is a standard air box for a 1998 TJ 2.5L. Do you think there would be any harm in making a screen of 1/4" screen/hardware cloth to put over the inlet horn of the...

Car pics too cool not to share

As a Forester I have "found" many cars, or what is left of them, out in the woods. A few years ago, a Galaxy 500, no engine block, tree growing up through engine bay, no sign of a trail through the woods to that location. We always gave each timber sale a name, usually based on location, but not...

    Looking for snow chain recommendations

Before moving to MN I was a forester for 30 years in MT. In the winter, when you left the blacktop to head up a snow packed mountain road throwing on chains was a daily occurrence, and should not take only 10-15 minutes max., unless they are buried in your gear box since the last winter. They...

    Military trailer in MT

I saw this on Craigslist in MT Dec. 2, 2021 https://helena.craigslist.org/tro/d/livingston-1968-johnson-corp-m101-1/7415268162.html Not mine, know only what you read about it. Posted here just FYI

What did you do to your TJ today?

Cleaned out the acorn hulls from a trespassing chipmunk. the rubber boot on the shift stick sometimes pops loose from the floor in cold weather, giving easy access for unwanted rodent visitor. Made sure it was snapped down when I parked it. No other holes I know of.

How far are you getting on a full tank?

I get about 100 miles between fill ups. Learned long ago that vehicles run just as good on the top half of the tank.

    Welding helmet

I cannot remember the make of my helmet, but it allows on inside for clip in "cheaters" to magnify. The bifocals never focused the right area. The magnifiers inside made a huge difference.

    How rusty is Montana?

Lived in Helena MT for 30 years. Early on never saw salt use, just sand, course sand, with rocks, death to windshields. In later years, use of deicing solution at intersections mostly and on interstate highways seems to be on the rise. In general, snow plowing was also minimal. On highways yes...

If you have OCD don’t open this

Truly, looks like my Dad's shop. Takes forever to do anything there, all your time is spent looking for a tool, which could be anywhere. Usually the last place he used it, but he can never remember where that was. Though his are usually on benches, chairs, in buckets, not often on the floor.

    Worst beer you've had?

Liquor store was giving out one can samples of coffee flavored Pabst. I like coffee. I like beer. Not good together. About 40 years ago we were building the folk's log house and frequently bought generic beer. White can, bold black letters, BEER it said. When you are hot and thirsty, just...

What did you do to your TJ today?

Had a catalytic reinstalled, a new muffler and 2 new O2 sensors. A previous owner had removed the catalytic, though they had a bung installed in the pipe back to the muffler, for the down stream sensor, so I did not get O2 related CELs. I just figured back to stock is better. Muffler looked...

Tire load range for sharp rocky terrain?

I will go out on a limb and suggest the reason load range C tires do not have sidewall cut and break issues is that jeeps are really not that heavy. Over the years with heavier pickups and wildland fire engines carrying loads have had innumerable sidewall punctures when running C rated tires...
