    Howling noise at speed

Likely With howling it would be excessively worn gears so the wear pattern will have moved from the center of the properly lashed gears toward the edges. https://itstillruns.com/inspect-differential-gears-wear-2313044.html

    Howling noise at speed

In addition to the rear ending fluid and looking at the gears. Jack up the rear and spin the wheels to see if you hear or feel drag in the bearings. It may not be really apparent though. I’d also Drop the driveshaft and check the u-joints to see if they are binding at all.

How should I wire Rugged Ridge 50' light bar?

Powered relay and a switch. It’s a pretty common wiring diagram. Drop an Ottraw switch in the factory hard top/fog light bank.

Mystery radio wires on 1997 TJ

Just replaced the radio in my 97. That’s not a factory plug I recognize. There were 2 larger plugs from the factory. You need to go back to where those are spliced and see the factory wire colors. All the other cut loose wires would lead me to believe someone ran a system with basic power and...

97 TJ not blowing much heat

I just went through a coolant system flush on my 97 also. It took one multiple hour garden hose flush back flush and no less than 10 further flush sessions to get it to flow clean. Stay diligent and just keep buying distilled water for the final flushes. (I think I went through 15 gallons of...

New spark plugs make a big difference!

I have new set waiting to go in. Would love to have similar results!

Are these coil spring lengths normal?

If it’s leve (ish), you like the ride quality and you like the stance under normal weight wouldn’t worry much about spring measurements.

What is this and what does it do

until you actually know the alignment specs aren’t contributing, you will just be hunting for a bad part....that may or may not even be there. Is this a new to you TJ? Was anything done recently just before the pull started? You can Jack it up spin all the wheels listen for drag You can get...

What is this and what does it do

Then I’d definitely get it to an alignment shop next. Recommend one that you can will let you come back for a second visit. If you have solid non-adjustable uppers and non-adjustable lowers with camber adjustment delete bolts it’s likely the camber is out of specs that could easily add to...

What is this and what does it do

Adjustable uppers? An actual alignment may be the only way to get a known quantity for your caster settings...and verification that the axles are sitting square. Does it have lockers? Vacuum enacted? Just trying to get an idea of what the asymmetric inputs could be.

    More vibrations

Agreed. My son had a vibration we thought was the transmission but ended up being an air filter housing that had moved and was just touching a brake line block transmitting vibrations to the pedals.

    More vibrations

You mention gear specific. I’d ask if it is rpm specific next. Get to the vibe. Note the engine rpm. It could be all sorts of things obviously. vibes in an auto at a specific gear are pretty rare. Torque converter would be the likely vibration or shudder culprit but usually that’s at or near...

What is this and what does it do

That’s the factory caster adjustment bracket. But it appears you have aftermarket bolts/washers that delete the caster adjustment. The factory bolts were known to move/come loose with hard wheeling and are not needed if you have adjustable control arms. Pull/drift diagnosis: first rotate...

Heavy steering feedback: Feels like a lack of power steering

Yes I did mean Durango. Mistype on my part. Ok the Durango steering gear is a larger bore. That could explain it. Not enough instantaneous volume with a “tired” but still functional steering pump to support a rapid input. The “right” route is probably to replace the steering gear vs sourcing...

Heavy steering feedback: Feels like a lack of power steering

I’ve run 35-37” tires on all of our trucks and rigs. And yes agree that at slow speeds the steering can be heavier...but even at 30-40mph there is a significant difference in the effort to turn the wheel of the TJ. If the input is slow/gentle like taking a curve or turning at an intersection I...
