Terrible noises on a newish crate engine

Hey folks, just wanted to loop back here since this saga has been ongoing for a while. A few of y'all had it right. A lifter went bad and chewed up my cam in the process. The crate engine company refused to pay out any kind of warranty claim since I installed the engine myself, so I'm on the...

Terrible noises on a newish crate engine

Alright I think I've nailed down what the issue is. Compression showed cylinder 1 ~130psi and the rest right on 150 so something is definitely up with cylinder 1. Popped the valve cover off to look around in there and it seems like one of the lifters on c1 is shot. There was a ton of play on it...

Terrible noises on a newish crate engine

Figured it was toast. Will run the compression test still for the heck of it, but will go ahead and get the warranty process started with powertrain. Thanks for the input all

Terrible noises on a newish crate engine

Yeah the codes were P0201 and P0301. I swapped around the injectors to see if the problem would follow (it did not). Pulled the plugs which all looked good. Stuck a boroscope in there and saw some questionable looking cylinder walls on pretty much every cylinder - I'll attach some videos of...

Terrible noises on a newish crate engine

Hey all, I recently (last year) got a new crate engine and dropped it in. It's been running great for about 6mo/4,000 miles. As of yesterday, she started making some crazy new noises and shaking around during the middle of a drive. I've got codes for a misfire on cylinder 1, but I haven't been...

    Crate engine sourcing

I just recently replace my motor with a reman from powertrain company. Looks like they only do 4.0L engines though. When I was shopping around I read a lot of people really liked their experience with S&J engines, though. I would have gone with them but their lead times were pretty crazy at the...

    2001 TJ Engine Replacement

I'm in the process of replacing my engine too. Jasper has a great reputation but is on the pricier side. I've also been reading good things from this shop https://www.sandjengines.com/, which has a substantially lower price point and has a serious warranty at 7 year/100k. I would have ordered...

Is this what rod knock sounds like?

For reference mine is a 2000 with about 204k on the clock. I’ve had it for roughly 1 year and 10k miles. I was pretty heartbroken to hear that sound coming out of my TJ - unlucky I guess

Is this what rod knock sounds like?

Spot on. Shop said piston skirt or wrist pin. Got a new engine on the way that I’m going to try and drop in myself

What else to do during an engine swap?

Going to try and do the work myself as I'm not dying to pay a shop a couple grand in labor. I haven't looked at Titan engines but I'll be sure to do that. Thanks for the pointers on the rest of the stuff, I'll have to stop myself from taking the whole car apart while the engine is out

What else to do during an engine swap?

It looks like my engine has kicked the bucket after getting 200 and change on the clock. I'm thinking about getting a reman from https://www.sandjengines.com/ due to their very nice looking warranty, as well as a couple of recommendations I've been given for this shop. I'm curious if anyone...

Is this what rod knock sounds like?

All of a sudden yesterday afternoon my TJ started making a nasty sound about halfway through a short drive. It sounds an awful lot like rod knock to me but wanted to get some second opinions. I'll probably be getting it towed to a shop next week to have them take a closer look. 2000 manual with...

HVAC blower only works on 1,2, and 3

If I recall correctly, setting 4 bypasses the resistor, so you shouldn't have to worry about that. I would try replacing the switch! That's what I did when my 3rd setting stopped working (ended up being the resistor though🤦‍♂️). I used this switch for reference...

A recipe for an affordable but quality 2.5" lift

I'm pretty new to car work in general an especially Jeep work (but working on it!), so I'm sorry if these are silly questions I really want to throw this lift on my Jeep. Thinking about using the parts mentioned in the original post but subbing out the ProComps for the OME HD front/rear since...

Got rear ended—What do I look for?

Insurance companies are predictably not playing nice, especially his Canadian insurance. Both my insurance and hi are offering to send out appraisers to take a look. However I'm worried the appraisers aren't going to do a thorough enough job inspecting the car for damage. I really want to take...
