This is my third Jeep and fourth 4x4. In 1981, I refurbished, drove and maintained 1969 Land Rover Series II 88" to high school using original parts and paint from catalog company out of Mechanicsville NY. Replaced everything but motor and trans several times. I felt at times, I probably spent more $$ maintaining than what it would take to make payments on new vehicle. Second was used1982 CJ7 that had been recovered, painted and retitled for sale a second time after it was rolled over in a accident in LA. Most have been a bad one as I learned after purchase this Jeep was actively involved in civil litigation against the manufacture by some large New Orleans law firm. Never heard any more news about it. Regardless of the slightly bent frame and twisted body, I didn't see how the Jeep was defective and cause of accident as I had a lot of fun driving it running beaches and jumping sand dunes in Florida before it was built out and closed off. Had the 4.2L with Offenhauser dual split manifold, Holly 390 CFM and dual exhaust headers. Third was 1990 YJ Laredo with hardtop. All black with silver trim. Called it the wimp mobile as I never took the top off of it and used it as a street machine. I lost it to insurance company after the jeep was rear ended in 1997. The 1998 TJ Sahara was purchased in 2000 where I recognized the urge never to drive another car as my primary mode of transportation.
