Good to hear bobthetj03. Now I need to put some miles on!

    Sahara Street and Trail

Thanks Chris. For what I am looking to do, I think this set-up will work. I was a little surprised at the stiffness of the shocks over stock. I think it also took a while for the Bilstein's on my truck to smooth out. After a while you just don't notice. Have you heard of any ill effects...

    Sahara Street and Trail

Thanks bobthetj03. The front axle didn't move much, if at all. (I guess it moves left or drivers side when it does.) It's hard to measure, but the rear moved 1/4 to 1/2 inch to the right. I took it out again this afternoon, and it goes down the road as before. No issues. Could I just...

    Sahara Street and Trail

I have been all over the place on my lift. First OME, then H&R, but finally landed on a simple 1.75 inch BB with Rancho RS5000X's. I am pretty happy with the results. The lift is just what I was looking for and the Jeep sits perfectly level. No vibrations whatsoever. The toe must have been...

Questions for the H&R Springs crowd

Thanks Steel City 06. My buddy and helper who owns a transmission repair shop talked me out of the H & R's. He thought I would want a little more lift and questioned the weight of my front bumper/winch and whether I would get consistent results front to rear as the jeep sat perfectly level...

Questions for the H&R Springs crowd

After much analysis and paralysis  , I finally decided to go with the H&R 52107 springs and Rancho RS5000X (RS55128 and RS55240) shocks for my build. I am looking for a little more room for my new 31x10.5-15 BFG KO2's and this seemed like a good compromise between a BB and going the...

Options to help the 42RLE transmission OD issue

I am not looking at going larger on the tires. 31's will be it. The Jeep is going to be used for running errands around town, exploring trails, and running up to the nearby ski areas. I also plan on towing it behind my motor home and diesel truck on vacations and hunting trips. No rock...

Options to help the 42RLE transmission OD issue

Chris: I saw you made this suggestion in an old thread too. I have started clicking off the OD at every start-up. It has made a big difference in performance. I have already gone further on this tank than the last, so it has also improved economy. I didn't realize the 4.0L could rev like...

Options to help the 42RLE transmission OD issue

Thanks Jramos013. I saw where 4.88's are recommended even for 31's. My concern with 3rd gear performance is even greater than with 4.56's. I am showing that in 3rd gear the 4.88 RPM's would be 3226 at 60 mph. The 4.88's may work great on the freeway, but they may not be ideal for the...

Options to help the 42RLE transmission OD issue

New to Jeeps and the TJ and just discovered the limitations of the 42RLE transmission and it's .69 OD gearing. The Jeep is a 2003 TJ Sahara, 4.0L, 42RLE, 3.73, Dana 44 with Trac-Lok rear, Dana 30 front. I just installed 31x10.5-15 BFG KO2's that have made the problem much worse. The tranny shifts...

    Sahara Street and Trail

Thanks glwood. Which Rancho shocks did you run with the 1.75" BB? For the RS5000X, it looks like the RS55128/RS5240 for 0-1 inch lift or the RS55239/RS55241 for 2-3 inch lift. And what about bump stop extensions? I am seeing a lot of different options there.

    Sahara Street and Trail

New Rock Hard RH-4014 Freedom Series bumper and Warn M8000 winch are on! Made about a 1/4 inch difference in suspension height at the front of the frame. Didn't change the previous stance much. I also put a level on the seam between the body and top and it is dead nuts level. Now on to...

    Sahara Street and Trail

Thanks HuskerJeep. Your rig looks great and is about what I am shooting for. Your stance "before" also looks really similar to mine. The H&R's appear to be a pretty safe bet. As you mention, whether they will they provide enough lift given I will have a hard top, front bumper, and winch is...

    Sahara Street and Trail

Thanks guys. This is what makes the OME springs confusing for a new guy like me. We have 2 TJ's here with different combinations of front and rear springs that appear to sit about the same.

I am definitely leaning towards the OME set-up right now. On the tires, I noticed they were much harsher riding on the way home. I think they are WAY over-inflated. Any suggestion for tire pressure? I have read 26 may be a good medium. Thanks again
