    2004 Wrangler A/C Replacement

You doing the work yourself? You could replace the whole AC system in parts from Rockauto for about $500-600. Compressed/drier ~300, condenser 70, evaporator 40, and $100-150 for all hoses and lines. Labor costs would be mechanic and location dependent.

    Transmission installed wrong?

I put it on with the pulley tool. I rented the puller and installer from autozone. I just couldn’t get it from turning to torque it to 80ftlbs. It kept turning, despite me putting it into first and reverse. Putting it into 5th gave me the resistance to torque it down. I’m relatively...

    Transmission installed wrong?

Huh. Well that’s wierd. That worked. Allowed me to tighten it to 80ftlbs without turning. Why is that??? I’m really confused. Im not much of a car guy - mostly just able to follow FSM.

    Transmission installed wrong?

Hi all, This is probably a stupid question. I just installed a reman engine in my 2000 4.0 manual. I went to tighten the vibration damper bolt, and so put the transmission in gear to hold it. However, when I go to tighten it I can still turn it. I thought the transmission would hold the...

    Pilot bearing question

Thanks! I didn’t have the parts catalog - I was trying to figure it out from the FSM which wasn’t clear. Thanks again super helpful!!

    Pilot bearing question

I got National SCE1295. It’s the bearing only. After doing some more research I “think” I need the one with the sleeve. Rockauto has the one you used, but it’s called “Manual trans; includes bearing sleeve repair kit”. I don’t know why the FSM doesn’t mention a sleeve, unless it’s just...

    Pilot bearing question

Hi all. Quick question. I have a 2000 TJ 4.0 with the NV 3550 transmission. I just bought a reman engine. When I look at my old crankshaft, it looks like the pilot bearing is in a sleeve installed in the outer, larger diameter recess. I bought a pilot bearing off rockauto, and it’s just...

    Front crankshaft seal

For the front crankshaft seal, FSM calls for “perfect seal” on the outer lip. Can I use black RTV? Getting mixed answers when I search- some say use Aviation form-a-gasket, some say black RTV. Some say definitely don’t use black RTV. Anyone know acceptable substitute for “perfect seal”?

    Reman engine upgrade options

So the block is cracked. Someone local is selling a used Jasper with 43K miles on it out of a 2004 that was rear ended. From the research I’ve done, a 4.0 out of a 2004 should fit my 2000. Does anyone know anything I should look out for? Mine is the early 2000 with the federal emissions so...

    Reman engine upgrade options

Their price included all their parts. If I had them just do the machine work I’d buy the pistons and rings and bring to them. It sounds like the 2800 included upgraded pistons and some of their preferred parts, and the 2400 was an enginetech master rebuild kit.

    Reman engine upgrade options

I don’t think so - I just told them I’d buy a complete head online. I’m sure they would if I asked them. They seem to know what they are doing, and the online reviews are mostly positive. If you don’t think that’s high maybe I’ll have them do it all just to avoid me screwing something up...

    Reman engine upgrade options

Thanks all! Super helpful. This is my first time doing any internal engine work so 1) trying to not mess anything up and 2) trying to not look like an idiot with the machine shop. I called a local shop with good reviews, and they quoted me 2400-2800 for everything (depending on brand of...

    Reman engine upgrade options

Never mind. Just found some other posts with pics that look like mine with people calling it normal. Weird place to have a hole from casting, and it’s jagged like it blew out. O well, learned something tonight.
