    Burning oil at high speeds

OK. So I put in the dye, drove it 300 miles, probably 150 of which was at 70mph+. Went through 2 quarts of oil. Crawled underneath with the blacklight and voila! Oil all over the air conditioning compressor. But, where is it coming from I don't know. Any ideas appreciated. Looks like it may be...

    Burning oil at high speeds

I'm wondering, also, since "the oil is going somewhere" if it would be worth trying the dyed oil and black light (from the service manual) to check for leaks after driving it around at 75mph for a while.

The oil is going somewhere. Agreed! I did replace the PCV intake elbow. Air intake tube looks clear and clean. I am thinking next step is to do the leakdown test. I see directions online for just putting in the air and listening, whereas other directions include a leakdown tester that measure %...

    Burning oil at high speeds

OK. Did compression test today finally. First compression tester didn't have long enough threads so had to go get another one at the local auto parts store. Luckily I have more than one car. Anyways, that doesn't seem to be the issue. Here's my results: 6 5 4 3 2 1 155 170 175 170...

Thank you for advice. I will do compression test and report back. But it won't be for a few weeks.

    Burning oil at high speeds

So, still burning oil bad. 1 quart in 200 miles at 65mph w/ trailer, 1/4 quart in 200 miles at 60mph w/ trailer. Exhaust pipe is mildly sooty, not oily. No smoke at startup, mild white smoke at 3000 rpm. At 65mph code tripped saying it was too lean. Also, I've got oxygen sensor code before. I...

    Burning oil at high speeds

So I went to pull the starter and see a red wire with a clip on it just hanging down. I connected it to the starter, reconnected the battery, and it started right up. Somehow I must have caught that wire and disconnected it while I was working on checking spark plugs! So glad to have it running...

    Burning oil at high speeds

I disconnected the serpentine belt and all wheels can be spun, including crankshaft (with a wrench). Had my wife try to start it and starter wheel does not spin even with belt not attached. So I am guessing something with the starter? Weird that it happened exactly while I was checking...

    Burning oil at high speeds

Thank you. I looked in to this and found that it can be bypassed in the fuse box. However, it was already bypassed and the fuse was fine - tried another fuse just to be sure but nothing.

Well, I took the rail off and looked at the connections, then made sure it was snapped back in to place. I reset the codes. I also tried a new starter relay and jumping it. Nothing. The electrical comes on but it doesn't even try to turn over. I can't even drive it at this point. Any ideas?

    Burning oil at high speeds

After thinking about it, my guess is I disconnected power from the spark plug rail somehow. I will take a look at those wires and connections later.

    Burning oil at high speeds

Well, things have gone from bad to worse. I checked the sparkplugs - and they were dry. I put the sparkplugs back in and put the rail back on. I installed a new rear pcv elbow and grommet. I don't think that was the problem as the hole on the old one was clear, but who knows. Now I have the...

I don't know what this means and I don't find anything when I search for it. Can you give me a link?

No smoke at exhaust at startup. Do get white smoke when I rev the engine about 3000rpm.
