Curious on if anyone still has their first car and how they’ve kept up with it. Add pictures!

Probably not what was expected but, have been driving my parents' cars until 20 years old when I got the TJ. ;)

12 years, many mistakes, more knowledge and less money later I'm still in love with it. :D

I have my FILs first new milk truck he bought in 1954. My first car was a 1958 Beetle that was half rusted out when I got it in 1971 when I was in 8th grade. Sadly the drive train fell out in high school and went went straight to the junkyard. Still have my first Jeep 1989 bought in 91.

No but I occasionally think it'd be neat to have. It was a good reliable car from when the celica was still the rwd base platform for the supra and before I had grown shoulders, apparently.

Nope! Cars went when the kids came along...
Can't touch what we had now without paying big dollars.
I had a '72 Camaro and wife a '70 Cuda...

I still have mine but I'm not as old as some of you so I'm cheating, not to mention that I'm ashamed to say it's sitting on a parking since a few years. It's a 1988 VW T3 that I bought in 2008, at that time the main reason for getting my driving license was being able to go riding my pitbikes and camping with my friends so my first car had to be a van. I always liked the old split-window T1 but even back then they were crazy expensive. However I found this T3 with low mileage and a fresh paint for 5k, here is a pic of the first trip I made with it

It was running well but exhibited boat-like road handling characteristics. Driving on the freeway on a windy day was a scary ride to say the least. So I upgraded some parts, at that time I was working as an apprentice in a MX shop and I wanted to do everything by myself, I made some custom spacers in the workshop and had to modify the U hinge otherwise the sliding door would hit the much wider 17" rims that I fitted. I remember having used an old CRF50 fork tube to extend it, it was my first attempt at welding something useful and it turned out good. The wider low profile tires along with some Bilstein shocks and shorter H&R springs made 3 worlds of difference in terms of road handling and with some minor cosmetics changes it was looking great.

It ran great for some years, I used it as a daily, for work, I also had to help all my local friends with their movings ( something I didn't anticipated but it wasn't easy to be the only bus owner 😅 ). And I have great memories of trips to various cool places. I had to replace the water pump, the starter, a few ball joints and other minor stuff but nothing too bad and I felt like it was rewarding to drive something I was repairing by myself. Later I found a set of nice 3-part Rial 18" wheels for the price of the included tires, I had to get them.

Unfortunately it started to have random loss of power. After shutting off the engine and waiting for a few seconds it was running good again for a few miles until the next loss of power. I spent some month trying to troubleshoot the problem without success. I ended up showing it to a mechanic who wasn't able to find the issue, all we know is that it's in the injection system. I tried to find a complete one from a similar van for some time without success and then I had other priorities and another daily driver so I procrastinated, but this thread reminds me that I need to put it back on the road ASAP!

Sure do! I bought this before I could legally drive, and my dad and I restored it in our garage (self-funded with savings after school/summer jobs). Dad was nice enough to let me run around in his daily C-10 while this was going on and once it was wrapped, I bought another cheapo car to daily. Been that way ever since. After a couple of years of not running, we got it back on the road last summer. It'll turn 50 this may, and I've owned it for about 20.

No. First car was 51 years ago and I don't know if I kept the stone etching. It was 1965 Mercury Marauder. 390/300hp FE, 3.90:1 rear axle. Just the right car for a 16 year old. Bought from my next door neighbor for $25 after their kid blew up the tranny doing reversers. I think I paid $35 for a replacement tranny and changed it out in the yard in an afternoon.

Everything my folks owned had a six and three on the tree. My Dad would borrow the Merc to go to work once in awhile and he'd light the tires up after pulling out the driveway. If I'd done that to his Chevy pick up, he'd of had a cow.

The Merc could pass anything but a gas station. I sold it back to my neighbor for $250. (He made his kid pay for it) Bought a more sedate and cheaper to run 67 AMC Ambassador.

God no!.... I won't even look up a photo of a 76 Vega Hatchback to post.... The Ford Pinto was the only worse car I think the US ever produced.... GM couldn't quite catch them there.....

Nope. My first car was a 1967 Triumph TR4A. I bought it from my friends father who collected them.
I had it about 8 months before a drunk woman hit it.
