How much money have you put into your TJ build?

I know this is a dead thread, but it is what I was going to post so anyway - I am an addict, I understand and occasionally embrace this part of my personality. My Tacoma cost 7k used, and I dropped 10k in mods the first 3 months. It is not done, mostly done, but still needs at least 4k (new paint job, new leafs - then mostly done. I made a few mistakes witih the donor vehicle - it will never be perfect. Honestly it can't be perfect - it is a Tacoma. OK, it was a stripped 4cly Tacoma.

I don't want to really admit what I was willing to spend for a LJ with a crappy 4" lift - but the PO did do enough that it does not have any noticeable lift problems and whatever rust has been well hidden - no other high profile mechanical problems yet. Lets just say it is starting off more than what I have in my Tacoma. I have had it 8 days, and I am probably at 3k so far - abet alot of that is on back orders that will be lucky to arrive before the end of summer (bumper is going to take forever, winch and flat tow bar can not be done before the bumper). I keep finding rabbit holes. I really want an ultimate roof rack (part of the reason I started this adventure) - that by itself might top 7k (have not started down that hole yet). Found overdrive for the first time today - my gearing is that bad. But you can't just do gears, you need to do lockers, and axles and... Ok, 2k for gears, another 3k for lockers, plus whatever axles cost - that will cost more than the roof rack before it is done. Plus tires and rims (2k), Plus a tire carrier before I destroy the rear of the tub (1.5k).

Guess I will call the 4wheel shop and see what the regearing and all will cost tomorrow - regearing is beyond my wrenching capacity. At least I can probably get that done while I am waiting on the bumpers, roof, and rack (don't think I can even start on the rack before I deal with the roof).

I have barely started this and I can see my jeep being not much less expensive than my wife's stock Rubicon JLU's MSRP- well that is not entirely true, she did not like the first JLU, so we are on the second Ribocpm JLU and we don't want to think of what we "sold" the first one for... The first one was seller financed and the buyer is driving it for free right now-I kind of knew that was going to happen, but that is what happens when you sell to family.

What is the correct name for Jeep disease?

Sounds about right. My Jeep was pretty well done by the Previous Owner and I've still spent $1500 on small silly stuff like lights and a soft top.

So far after 7 months of ownership I've managed only $2500CAD in upgrades. I estimate my wish list at $20ko_O The sad reality for us plaid wearing northerners is the steep shipping costs up to our frozen country. Pretty much have to double the price of everything🥺

I have owned my 03 sport for almost a year and have put about $1200 into it and have taken it out on the trail to play with it and its great so far. Now I have about a rear Dana 44 arb locker and axles and built Dana 30 inn the garage and a bunch of other parts waitingto go in. Usually I try and get my builds going but back orders are whats killing everything. Plus I have way too many other hobbies LOL

I gathered up all my receipts to make sure I would be ok in the event of an insurance claim, and made the mistake of adding it up.

$14k to purchase. $17k in receipts. That's just what it would take to duplicate it, not including mods I bought and then removed or replaced, like sway bar disconnects that got ditched for a swayloc, or the 50" light bar, or the 32s I ran in my journey between 30's and 35s, or the 4.56 gears that got shredded due to improper installation and got replaced with 4.88s. It also doesn't include major maintenance, like radiators and steering pumps or the AX15 I'm about to swap in.

All I know is that when I die, I hope my wife does not sell the rig for what I told her I spent on it.....

Mrs App knows that I’m nearing the same in my new build that my truck cost so at least I got that going for me. But I haven’t started the build either.
