I found a nice article on the P0441 Engine Code:

https://www.700r4transmissionhq.com/p0441-jeep-wrangler/

Smog is due on the Jeep and I guess that code will fail the test. I have a couple of questions:

1) Does the orientation of the purge valve matter? The photo shows the 'correct' orientation, with the Top straight up. You can see the metal ear where the valve is normally attached, this places the valve almost 90 degrees sideways. Would this cause the error code?

2) Does anyone know how many miles I need to drive after resetting the code? I've seen between 50 and 100. Will the ODB2 reader tell me when it is ready to test?

I plan to vacuum test the valve and see if the solenoid will trigger with 12v applied. IF the valve passes I guess a vacuum leak is the next most common problem. I REALLY don't want to have to run down a vac leak...

Wow, that reset pdf looks like a pain in the ass. Thanks for the info. I wonder if they can test with 1 system 'not ready' in California?? LOL, yeah, who am I kidding....

Is this part of this system from the PDF "EGR System Monitor Drive Trace - Vacuum controlled"?

so you didn't fix anything ? and yes the orientation of the purge valve does matter, it should have top or up marked on it !

Long story short
I zip-tied the purge valve in that position
I reset the Check Engine Light
After about 17 miles I was able to clear out all the "Not Ready" codes
Jeep passed the smog test
Now I guess I will wait and see if it throws the code again

glad you got it to pass....

Me too, thanks for your link on the Chrysler Drive Cycle Procedure.

My tank was a little low to start, so I filled it to 1/2, which seemed to be within all the ranges.

for future reference and general knowledge I was able to set all of the monitors (after a computer change) in my driveway by putting the rear axle on jackstands and running the drive cycles

I'm not positive about other years but the '06 can pass CA SMOG check with one monitor not set.
