Wanted to share with the forum my experience driving the 4 door TJ, back in Israel, before moving to US.
So, Israel uses Wranglers for military purposes for like last 40 years and they assemble them in Israeli factory.
The best redesign that they made is 4 door TJ, that has 6 speed manual, Dana 44 rear (non rubicon), factory slip yoke eliminator (they kept the same NP321 transfer case), slightly lifted suspension, Dana 30 front, 4.10 gears, double cardan driveshaft, front and rear, 32 inch tires and improved cooling system and AC. Before going into this design, they made plenty of tests on reliability, feedback from troops in field etc.
The cooling system was really strong, and could keep the engine temperature at 210 all the time, with it’s stronger AC. The AC was redesigned, so that there are AC vents in the roll cage, providing adequate cooling to rear seat.
I have driven this Jeep in different situations and it drove perfect. Longer wheel base made it much more stable at highway speeds with cross winds, and gearing was just perfect.
These keeps there serve there as officer transport, from company commanders and higher.
This is when I fall in love with TJs.

Cool story, bro. All jokes aside, do you have any info or resources that document the improvements made?

Only what I know myself. 4.10 gears, slip yoke eliminator, Dana 44 rear, 32 inch tires etc.
No winch in the front, in order not to disturb the airflow.
The AC is the biggest change inside, with the AC vents in the roll cage. Roll cage has air vents inside, and the outlets right next to the lights.
Double battery, to support radio and electronics. Engine is same, gearbox is same (6 speed German transmisssion), transfer case same, but with slip yoke eliminator, but suspension is lifted to accommodate the 32 inch tires. Don’t know the lift details, but no vibrations at any speeds, I have reached 110km/h with it easily, and it drove just perfect.
Mechanical clutch, I think stock radiator.
What I learned from it is that TJ rubicon Manual 6 speed was slightly overgeared from factory:)

Wow! What's the wheel base on those?

That would be crazy to get one imported and take it on the trails.

Them: Where did you get this? Is this custom?

Me: The 4 door came from the factory like this. Bought it from a dealer, they had a bunch of them. :D

Man that thing is hideous. Looks way worse than the image I had in my head reading the description.

I can't get myself to appreciate the look of a jk or jl 4 door but these TJ's don't look half bad. I had heard of these military versions before, op is a lucky duck getting to test drive it.

This Jeep is just wrong enough to be right in my book ! Jeep has always marched to a different drummer : Think of side mounted spare tires , the Forward Control trucks , the Jeep DJ , and the CJ - 6.
I would put up with the funky to be able to have a 4 dr. TJ .

I bet the frames are really minty!

I bet the frames are really minty!

They are. No salt anywhere, and pressure washing is done almost weekly, as a part of a weekly maintenance routine. The ones used in a desert. The older CJs, that were 40 years old when i drove them didnt really have any signs of corrosion on frame.

If it wasn't for that damn corner radius at the top of the doors I think I might like it.

That was my initial thought too. They are standard TJ doors and I'm sure they weren't thinking of this but it wouldn't be hard to fabricate square corners with scraps from a pair of old doors. New glass and modifications to the top would be required of course.

It's often said that LJs look better lifted. I think this would benefit from one too even if it was only few inches.

There is an egyptian jeep tj also, i guess it has the same wheelbase as 4 door tj. Semi pickup seems more stiff. But i guess it has italian diesel heart not 4.0

With regards to this one - I do not understand what is the point in moving the real axle so much back. It would make sense if there would be 4 doors, but does not make sense for 4 door variant.

Add a lift on there and square the edge of those doors and I think you’d have a seriously good looking TJ.
