True fog lights - yellow bulb or yellow lens?

The filament glows incandescent white. Like steelhd said, it doesn't matter where you filter it to yellow.

I swapped the bulb in my factory fog lights with these.

I don’t get hung up to much on the color it’s the sharp cut off/ low light position that seems to be most important. Yellow drops the glare but white still works and is more useable when off roading- so in my minds eye if you have only one set of lights go white- if you want it very task oriented go yellow

I bought these yellow Hella foglight off ebay a few years back and have been happy with them. Hella Fogs. They do need a couple things to make them better though. The black paint of the housing seemed thin so I disassembled them and spray painted a couple coats of paint. The hole in the housing where the wires come out are pretty ridiculous. I was just a huge hole with the wiring coming out. I filled the hole with some Permatex Ultra Black and have had no problems.

The light is either filtered at the bulb or at the lens so the end result is exactly the same.

That makes it easy (y)

I suppose keeping them white would make them a little more versatile, guess I’ll have to do some thinking on that.
I am pretty happy with the brightness of the truck-lite knockoff headlights I put in, I’m not even really sure using the fog lights as an off-road light would make a whole lot more difference at this point.
Maybe I’ll have to order them without the yellow bulb/film and just experiment with them for a bit and figure out how I use them/what I want out of them.
Thanks!

Good to know, I probably won’t worry about painting them unless I figure they’re THAT bad but will for sure seal off that hole.

Really good lookin rig!

Is there a reason you decided on halogen as opposed to LED bulbs? I recently installed a set of these in my Ram. LED switchback bulbs = best of both worlds. 🙂

LED’s frost over quick if there’s any snow blowing.

I forgot about this, they ship from India, so it took 2 or 3 weeks to get them. Not a huge deal for me as I wasn't in a hurry.

I used these Hella lights: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B019FCY7LQ/?tag=wranglerorg-20

Hella calls them driving lights, so the lenses may have a different pattern than a fog, but they work well for me.

They have a plastic housing and come with a white cover. I got a pair of fog light connector pigtails at Quadratec, wired those to the lights' pigtails, and plugged into the harness. No issues.

Unfiltered light from the halogens will look almost brown compared to your LED headlights, so I would (and did) apply a yellow film for that reason

I also used halogens so I'd have at least one set of lights that don't ice over, but I used KCs Apollo series that come with a connector for the TJ harness so they were plug n play, plus they're visually consistent with the KC LED driving lights I have on my A pillars.

The fog lights that I installed are a set of Rigid LED D Series Pro with four 7.5 LEDs.
I snap on set of amber lens covers to the housing.
They work well in the fog and I can remove the covers to use them in dark areas.

The worst fog I ever encountered was coming down thru Cajon Pass on the way back from Moab.
I was using my GPS to identify where the turns were since there were no highway lights and the headlights were almost useless.
Safe driving speed was about 5 mph since you couldn't see the vehicle in front until it was within 20'.
I was driving with my Emergency Flashers on the entire way down the grade.
Not an enjoyable driving situation.

Mount Airy, at the Virginia/North Carolina border on I-77, gets like that sometime.

Ah yeah I can see that. I think I’m gonna order them and just see how I use them, if I do indeed only use them in foggy/snowy conditions I’ll probably throw a yellow film on.

I drive country back roads at night for my job and have yet to find any fog lights that actually help in heavy fog.

I'm curious if you've tried amber fogs as well? Did they perform better than traditional fog lights?
