Looking at doing some prep work for an EcoDiesel swap on my 05 Wrangler X with 30/35 axles. I want to start from the ground up. I know I must upgrade my front to support the weight of the new engine. I mainly do on road driving but I do some trail riding in the summers but nothing crazy. I want to be able to turn right whenever I want, and I want to be able to do so well. Is there a better/stronger option than the Dana 44 or is that the best option I have? I currently don’t need but I’d rather drop the money now to keep my options open in the future if I go a different direction. Thanks in advance for any and all advice.

See how it is after the diesel is installed. If you need help with steering add ram assist. Converting the front Dana 30 to the Dana 44 won't help. The TJ's Rubicon front Dana 44 is simply a Dana 30 with a Dana 44 pumpkin and 30 spline inner axle shafts. The rest of it is 100% Dana 30 including the axle tubes, knuckles, brakes, ball joints, steering system, etc.

For axles, it really depends on what size tires you plan to run and how hard the trails are that you want to run. An aftermarket Dana 44 or Dana 60 would work.

How much does an ecodiesel weigh? I can't imagine it being significantly heavier than a 4.0

This..,,

Dry weight of the 3.0 is 505 lbs dry. I believe the 4.0 is ~515. Negligible

I would love to see this swap. I have an ecodiesel for my DD and LOVE it.

If you’re going to do a motor swap seems like it makes sense to do axles at same time then you can adjust the motor location to get the up travel you want.

Not sure when your tire plan is but aftermarket jk44 is a pretty nice upgrade. Gets you high pinion bigger gearset, bigger brakes and wider width.
