I'm a noob on the forum but have been around on/off for 10 years. I'm on my 2nd Wrangler and right now am having problems finding a name for a part. I have a 4.0 5spd TJ. The part is located up and to the right of the oil filter-diagonal to the right of the oil filter I guess you could say. It's on the passenger side of the engine and appears to go inside the engine. It is no more than 2 inches round at the top and has an electronic connector on the left side. The wiring for the alternator also leads off of this wire. This thing is chirping upon start up, goes away when warm. Is this the oil pump? I can't seem to find it on any diagrams. A pic would help I know. Thanks

That is the distributor, above/inside is the camshaft position sensor. On top is the distributor cap with the spark plug wires coming off of it.

What model year do you have?

Should I replace the sensor and the part that goes in the engine together? Why is this thing chirping? I can feel it coming from this connector. Looks like the part is under $50 for both so I prob will do both of them.

That's good news since squeaking from that location can be difficult to fix on 05-06 models. If the squeak is coming from the top of the shaft the distributor used to sit on, that's where the camshaft position sensor sits and it might be the source of the noise. Fortunately the CPS is inexpensive and easily replaced. Hopefully it's the source of the noise. If you end up replacing it, go for a Mopar. Store brand sensors are more trouble than they're worth.

Update: My problem was fixed but not sure exactly what had happened. I changed the oil and filter right before this started. So I read a few posts on the forum to change the filter-it may be the problem. Seemed the cheapest way to start diagnosing the problem. I had also switched the oil to Castrol GTX high mileage at that oil change. I went ahead and decided to change out the Castrol oil and replace the filter with Purolator One Filter with Valvoline oil. As soon as I started it up I could tell it was back to normal. The chirping from the CPS faded away after start up and hasn't come back, my oil pressure is back to normal, and it is running normal temps again. All of my issues were solved from replacing the GTX high mileage oil and STP filter.

I am confused about what happened but am glad my Jeep is back to normal. Just my experience with high mileage oil and STP filter. I will never use them again.

Always good to get an update, especially one that ended with positive results! It'd be great if everyone had such good fortune. Have you been following @jeep_boss lately? We need to get together and buy this poor soul a drink! :godsdrink0nw:
