Compressor cycles on every few seconds

I recently installed an ARB twin compressor. (I'll post about how I fit it soon.) Right now it is only hooked up to an air chuck, no lockers. On the ARB twin, the pressure switch is "internal" (under the removable cover) and the manifold is external/separate — and (without lockers) the manifold is optional, so I haven't installed one yet.

After I turn on the compressor, even without anything connected to the chuck, the compressor runs every few seconds. It doesn't have a manifold, so as I understand it, the only air "storage" is in the one-meter line, so that's what the pressure switch can respond to.

Does that mean I likely have a leak in the line somewhere? Other than where the line connects to the compressor itself, all of the connections are compression fittings. So I only added Teflon tape to that one fitting. Is that wrong?

Yes, I would assume that means you have a leak somewhere. Did you try soapy water to find the leak?

Richard49 beat me to it - I was typing as he posted.

Thanks guys. It was a leak. I was about to try soapy water, but first I decided to tighten every connection, from the compressor to the chuck. Problem solved. Thank you!

I probably should have known it was a leak, but with the ARB twin not having a manifold, I didn't know how it should properly work. Now I know. Pics to follow. The short version is that the twin does fit on the ABS tray, even in a manual, nearly perfectly, though it takes some work to get it in place and secured.

Since you mentioned it's not connected to the lockers: I would advise against connecting it to the lockers. Instead, I'd use one of the small compressors for the lockers. Because they're so expensive, I wouldn't want it cycling on and off just for the lockers. I'd use it only for airing up.

Luckily, after I tightened everything, the cycling stopped.
