I know nothing about body work. For a rough idea how bad will it be getting this dent repaired by someone? Is it a major job I need to save up for or something straightforward?

Thanks, Andy

I had similar damage on a previous TJ that happened when a bus backed into me. The estimate was about $1100 but that was over 10 years ago. I would wager the repair would be over twice that amount today, if not more. Instead if repairing it I ended up installing some Savvy full corners. Hopefully someone with current knowledge of body work/costs will chime in.

You need a pro- the good part is they can paint to the seam, and don’t have to blend.

You are correct but the yellow would have to be laid down right to the seam and there is a good chance you’ll see a mismatch in color. You will have to find a phenomenal painter that can mix to match. They won’t be able to straight mix to the paint code, paint it and it butt match to the mating panel flawlessly on 17 year old paint.

Black is about the only color that can be butt matched panel to panel without notice.

Not trying to deter you away from body work and paint repair, just giving you a heads up on the reality.

The paint is at minimum 17 years old. It won’t be a perfect match in any scenario- even if you had the exact same paint from the same can- I’m just pointing out the best case scenario.

Presently IF you are more concerned with the dent removal than the paint; you might look into the mobile Professional Dent Removal.
I have seen these technicians work wonders on removing dents larger than the ones you have.

I'd bang it out as good as you can, then buy some corner armor. I bought a Jeep with similar damage and talked the guy down $1500.

This is what I was thinking about last night. I was considering making a form in the right shape, placing that against the inside and tapping it with a hammer. Then I started to do some research and it was all about blow torches, red hot metal, etc. and I was like "whoah, that is way beyond my comfort zone" etc.

Talk to a paintless dent guy first. They might be able to get that reasonably ironed out before you cover it with armor. Otherwise, to do it right, you're looking at quite a bit of work and paint blending. I'd guess $1,000-2,000 worth. Of course, bondo Billy can do it for $500.
