Rear Main Seal question, but a little different...

Finally got my parts back from the machine shop and ready to start building. Main bearing clearances check out with measurements of all parts and a plastigage check just to be sure. Went to install the rms and found I have the wrong style. Seal kit came with the rms with tabs on it, while my 2002 doesn't need them. So I cut them off and installed it as pictured here. Is this ok? Or should I just grab the rms I need and move on?

I'm asking for a sanity check here lol. I know per the manual I'm to put gasket maker in the corners, so theoretically that should take care of any inconsistency between my cut off seal and the actual seal right? No?

I just did my rear main and I'd hate to take it apart to do it again... Personally I'd be inclined to get the correct seal, it's something like $15.

That said, for what its worth my correct RMS (without the tabs) looks just like your trimmed one....

Use a Mopar seal...I did mine four times with Felpro and it kept leaking.

Red Loctite on the mating surface...RTV will not do it.

While you have the oil pan off put your finger on your timing chain and check tension.

I swapped my oil pump while I was in there with a new regular volume Melling.

Are they a different material between the two?

This isn't just a rear main change, it's a whole new build. Only original parts is the block, head, crank, and rods. Everything else is new.

I'll definitely use loctite if that worked better for you.
