Spare or no spare?

I like the look with the spare on.

As far as needing it...The only things I ever have flats/blowouts with are trailers. Never had one on a vehicle(Knock on wood).

My two pennies here; I like Jeeps with or without the spare. Seen many carriers that are junk and others that look great and work well. Personally, I toss a spare in the back (rear seat out) when I go trailing. In civilization, I keep a plug kit and a little crap compressor, but the spare stays home. Eventually, way down the line, low on my list is an exo-gate. In my many years of commuting 60 miles round trip, Ive yet to see a Jeep w a flat. Yea, it happens and being safe rather than sorry, I completely understand. But for me, I prefer my options.

One last thing: the only time Ive seen a Jeep on the side of the road, was because it literally lost a wheel. The guy had what I believe where upwards of 35’s (JKU) and he lost a wheel. Don’t known if it was due to poor torquing or sheering.

With, as long as the spare is the same size as the tires you are running. It looks stupid if you are running 35s and have a stock spare.

For the purpose of cosmetics i definitely prefer seeing a spare......EXCEPT for the reason you mention.
Look terrible. Lol

Most Jeep clubs I've seen require you to run with a full-size spare tire. If you get a flat on the trail, you're either going to make everyone wait or, more likely, they're going to leave you behind when they figure out you purposely didn't run with a spare.

Problem with running no spare and no rack is all the open bolt holes that get left behind. Just screams something is missing.

You could always put a sticker on the tailgate where you wheel should be saying "If you can read this I cant afford a spare !" ;)

I hated it then (young and stu) for it is so stiff to drive. I remember we have a wooden stick to measure the gas tank, there was no ignition key, no roof, I was seriously embarrassed to pick up my girlfriend with it.

Now that I am old, loving TJs, (sigh) :(

I was thinking about this and I am not sure about the spare on the back of a Wrangler. I think the picture you posted looks right. I don't think a huge 33 or even worse a 35 on the back does however. Mine came with a 33 on the back and I think it looks stupid. It is too big. I am not sure what I am going to do about a spare yet, but I won't have one if I am running 33's I don't think. Here is a picture.
