Well, I guess I should start at the beginning. 2 days after Christmas last year, I was going to my insurance agent to get a 2023 calendar, and slid off the road, hitting a small tree broadside on the driver's door. I was able to back away from it, but slid toward a ravine in the field, Was only going about 35 mph. I was not injured at all, but the full door was toast and the body was pushed in to the body mount under the seat. The window was up, so it was okay. The full top was not hurt.
Because the TJ is not my main driver, I told the body shop manager that I was in no hurry for it. It sat there for about 2 months before it even got in the shop. I also told him I didn't care what it looked like, just make sure the door seals so wind, and rain can't get in. I found a new full door on the web that was actually the same color as the one that got bent.
When I drove it home, I decided that I needed to get the control arms replaced.... Had always torque steered, but when the full top, is on, it just felt shaky.... I gave the job to my best friend's son, Cameron. Steve,my best friend was at the time getting worse with the cancer and Cam stayed with him 24/7 for the last 3 months....I did not care about the Tj, I was more surprised with Cam doing that. he just seems to be not motivated on most things. Anyway, it sat in Steve's barn until June, with no work being done. I finally got Cam busy on it and got it back at the end of June.
When I drove it with the full top, it actually drove and rode better.....
The Day I got it back the hard top and full doors came off and the Bimini top and half doors when on it....
However, because of the bent body work, the transfer case shifter would not get fully into 4wd low. I have bought a B&M shifter, and will have it installed this Thursday. Hopefully that will fix that problem.
I had some pics of the damage, but I lost them when my cell phone died.
Oh, and I paid out of pocket for the bodywork and new to me door. I only have liability on the TJ.
