I was changing the oil for the first time since I bought the TJ and noticed how the O2 sensor wiring is wrapped around the cable and is spliced where I circled it (apologies for the lack of focus). Is this how the wiring is normally run or was it some kind of a hack job?

Should I leave it until the sensor needs replacing or address it now? Where are the blue wires going?

Up to you on that one.

You can download the FSM and all the wiring diagrams in the resources section.

If it's working might just want to leave it alone. But prepare to fix and replace things down the road by having the proper connectors, wires, crimps, etc on hand.

Hack job. Replace wiring? Depends on how anal you are. It’d drive me insane so yes I’d make it right. But…..if it works, it works.
Ex Navy here so I gotta poke at ya, you big ole jarhead. You could always call on a Navy dude for a ride🤣

That O2 sensor wire itself doesn't look right either. I would assume the PO used an O2 sensor that is different based on the wire coming out of the sensor itself. It looks more like a cable than the normal wires. Hence the reason to do additional wiring.

I am pretty anal but just do not have the time to deal with it now... due to the aforementioned condition, my list is pretty long. 🤣
Already had a ride to Gitmo once so I will pass on the offer 😁

BTW, I have the same color Rubi as your avatar.

Mac,
I guess if it ain't broke, don't fix it. I am about to hit 60k on my 2005 Rubi so hoping that I won't have to deal with it any time soon.
